Ashley Cole was tenacious full back both defensively and offensively on the pitch but I think that moment with CR7 is one he'd wish to forget in his outstanding career. Watching it again am surprised he didn't pull a muscle having been decked by CR7😂
I think there is a huge gap between Ronaldo, Messi and Mbappe. Mbappe is great but it french league. Messi was great against Galacticos and Ronaldo against Invincibles. Huge difference.
That's obviously not true. The fact that CR7 had the final say in a lot of Arsenal and Chelsea games says that he may not have won every duel, but he won most of those matches.

Every time he played directly against Cole he got pocketed

If there was no Ashley Cole, I'd say we wouldn't have the Ronaldo we have today. I would believe Cole has been vital for Ronaldo in improving his game, because whether he would face him in the EPL, he would face him with the Portuguese NT and they did on multiple occasions with Euro 2004, WC 2006. I think that has toughen Ronaldo and made him even more deadly.

Cole was England's best player for 10 years. Shame the rest of the golden generation never turned up as often as he did. Only Beckham, Owen and Rooney also did the business.
I think when Cole had more success against him he used the left sided centre half to help him out and was a lot more patient. You can't just press Ronaldo, he'll do you.
You’re deluded or genuinely don’t know much about football if you think he embarrassed Cole. Absolute madness. More like Cole embarrassed Ronaldo, not just this game but, every game they played against each other.
When he left him on the ground. Based on Cole's full performance tho I'd say he taught Ronaldo a few lessons here. His amazing defensive skills lead Ronaldo to make a lot of mistakes. Cole for sure won this battle by far

As much as Cole comes across smug he ruined Ronaldo in the Euros and Ronaldo is on record as saying he was 1 of the hardest he came up against. Every world class player has boogie man.
Cole around this time was widely considered the best full back in the world... and Arsene still made sure he always had back up to deal w an 18 year old. That in itself says everything...
