I'm creating some clothes for an 1830s Norwegian Chambermaid, and wanted to give her a nice jacket-type shortgown! I'm not super happy with the result, but that's just human :) Time: 21 hours Cost: NOK 350
Making an 1830's short gown was a brilliant idea, and it turned out beautifully! Thank you sharing with us. Working or middling women's clothing is my personal area of interest in historic costuming and is often the most neglected. You've inspired me with new ideas!
ooohhh -that is soooo pretty! I just LOVE the sleeves and the pattern matching at the shoulder seams is just perfect. And yes. Maybe it is not taylor made perfect, but it´s hand stitched top to bottom and it is lovely. Only thing missing is a tiny button somewhere.. ;) You dir a wonderful job. Thank you for sharing. Now i need to run, or i shall be late for work. Which would so be worth it! Have a lovely day, thank you for this perfect start into my day Su
Instead of chopping off fabric from the hem of that dress to make it more usable for everyday wear, wouldn't it make more sense to add some tucks to the skirt? Helps fix the length, is reversible if you want it to be wearable for historical wear in the future, and gives a lovely weight/structure to the hem so you won't need as much/any petticoat to hold the skirt out.
