'I was so happy to see the bottom of the cell you wrapped. I've re-wrapped my share of 18650's and my first were not so great but I've SEEN some horrible work and people are bragging about it. But good job and I think you are the first I've seen doing this RIGHT on youtube and even in some vape shops in my country they fu** it up. Just do it right or go home ;) Great video and very professional!
I watched many RU-vid video's on this too and I could not find one that gave specific guidelines on how to achieve a consistently good result. I like a specific and clear set of steps to achieve a result, a recipe if you will, that gets me the same result each time. I think I achieved that with this video. I certainly learned much from making this video and I hope others will too. Thank you very much for the great feedback and the very kind words. All the best.
Thank you ever so much. I had a number of cells that worked fine but had tears top and bottom which I thought I was going to have to toss out - awesome, as I had shorted out one previously when charging. 😊
Purple anodized shrink wrap looks good too. You should use a Dymo thermal print label maker & label your batteries. Looks super professional then. Good video on how to wrap the battery properly, thanks.
Richard Lloyd, sorry I was just commenting on your stock purple anodized wrappers on your existing battery. Sorry about getting your hopes up on anodized wrappers, maybe they do sell them ?? Anyone ? And I'm not sure if there is a PC printer that is able to print directly on your heat shrink ? I wish there was, Anyone ? Anyways, yes you can buy clear self stick labels with black, red, blue or white printing & possibly gold printing. Dymo prints the colored print over clear tape using a thermal transfer process. Their labels are sun proof, durable & waterproof. Cheapest I've seen is on eBay to get the model 160 Dymo labels, and the compact model Dymo 160 labeller printer with keypad, it is very easy to use labeler. It's a self contained battery operated hand held printer, prints clearly with 2 lines of print & different font sizes. There is other Dymo models & other companies like a Brother brand labeller too. But Dymo brand seems to have more printing label color options & types of labels at better pricing. Each Dymo tape cartridge holds 23 feet of tape usually 1/2" wide. At a price of around $5 each cartridge, it gives you a lot of labels per cartridge. The Dymo 160 clear labels look professional & provide a little more protection to your wrapped battery. The labels stay on, the print doesn't rub off & the labels stick very well. Also Dymo offers different colored tape not just clear, with color print options. I don't work for Dymo, I'm just a labeller OCD nut who does a lot of research before I buy. I label everything that has a smooth surface, LOL'. Hope that helps ? 😁😋
The purple shrink wrap on the Efest was a transparent/translucent/clear purple so you could see the shine of the metal underneath it which gave it a very nice look. If you did get a clear shrink wrap you could put the label under the wrap which would make it permanent. I like that idea. Here are some 50 PVC Heat Shrink Wraps (Pre-cut) for 18650 batteries - Clear/Blue at Amazon: amzn.to/2qhR3nS Thanks
The Dymo 160, here it is at Amazon: amzn.to/2qpionQ for $9.99 really they are giving it away! I almost bought it at first sight but then I saw that it does not interface with a computer but at $9.99 you just want to buy it anyway... the Dymo 280 at Amazon:amzn.to/2rr2rly has a USB interface that allows you to print labels from free PC software and at $27.97 is still a good deal but really for $9.99 it's hard to resist the Dymo 160. Thanks for bringing it to my attention I am sure I will pull the trigger on one of these or maybe both and perhaps do a video on both. All the best.
thanks for sharing this. BTW, i bought one of those ebay 20 cell LG cluster deals.... im about to publish a video on it... crazy thing, the shrink wrap on those cells was so frail that the shrink wrap on them simply broke apart. I charged one with the imax b6ac and the first one took over 2200mah of charge. the second one however i shut off at around 1750 mah charging at .3 A The cells had markings under the wrap too however it seemed unreadable... keep an eye on the channel, either today or tomorrow i will publish it... thanks again for sharing this video.. the timing is right, thats for sure!
You are most welcome. I am interested in what you find in that LG cluster. Even when you can read the printing it generally does not cross reference, lol that is the nature of harvesting I think. I am glad I could help. Thank for watching and commenting again. All the best.
Great vid. Now I'd buy a label thermal transfer printer. $50 at office supply stores. No need to use a magic marker. I don't personally own a label printer but we had one at work and it was great.
I am with you on that. I also think using a clear wrap and putting the label on the cell then wrapping it would also be cool. Here is the wrap I am thinking of 50 PVC Heat Shrink Wraps (Pre-cut) for 18650 batteries - Clear/Blue at Amazon :amzn.to/2qhR3nS Thanks
Amazing video!! I learned to much information you totally changed my view to the batteries. Could you show us how to reattach battery poles with cable sand how it covered by stickers then wrap it. I would be most grateful for you Thanks
You're most welcome. I'm glad to know I could help you and that you got value from my work here. 😁️ Thank you for watching, commenting and the very kind words. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀
Dear uploader, wowwww , I could never imagine ths DIY wrapping is possible & made a cell looks very new 😃😃 Thts indeed a great idea u posted thtnks. I will try tht. 😜😜 By th way , 1) Could you pls mke sme vids of BMS boards which r available online? 2) Is it ok to discharge 18650 up to 2.3 volt as BMS cuts th circuit @ tht voltage , equipped in any 3 cell 18650 battery package? Asking u coz u hv knowledge & interest abt, so if u share sme. 😌 Thanks.
You are most welcome. I was actually very pleasantly surprised and amazed by how well it worked. The end result was every bit as good the original wrap on the cell. I am going to re-wrap a few more of my less then perfect (damaged and defective) factory wraps as well as my Catastrophic Olight Panasonic NCR18650B cell ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kqA_V2lHfqA.html and I may do how to on adding a protection circuit. I have wondered about the 2.3V cut off too. I am not sure if it is damaging or not. I will look into it. Thanks for watching and the great questions. All the best.
I did it for demonstration purposes, most people would do it because their cell/battery wrap was damaged in some way. The wrap is a safety feature and if it is damaged it should be replaced before continuing to use it. Some people are re-wrapping for vanity reasons as well. They like a pink, purple or black cell wrap instead of what they have currently. Thanks.
I would stick with sharpie labels my self. I couldn't see spending lots of money to label my cells. if I was in a professional situation. that would be different. do they Have shrink wrap for 26650's I have a few that could take a rw wrap. but I plan on putting them in a bank. so it doesn't really matter. do you know if there is a particular reason why 26650 cells are not as popular? could it be energy density. you can get a smaller cell with just as much energy? thanks
It's personal thing if you want labels or if the sharpie will do. Personally I like the thought of a label printer for a more professional look but I am shooting video of the cells and I want to keep it straight but if it does not matter to you then rock on with the sharpie. Shrink wrap is available for 26650's here is some at Amazon: amzn.to/2r3cJHw and here at Ebay if you prefer: goo.gl/A8rNGl I have a 26650 flashlight and it's a monster but it is also very heavy and bulky which does not make it my go to light because of that but it depends on the application. My suspicion on the popularity of the 18650 is size and weight. I may do a video on re-wrapping a 26650 thanks for asking. All the best.
My hairdryer just heats up the battery, it doesn't shrink the wrap at all. It does burn my fingers though. It's a weird dryer, so I had to resort to using a ligther. I'll get a mini heat gun one of these days.
Yeah. Now my other battery started getting cuts for some reason, so I grabbed a cheap 2000w heatgun - 500 times easier than using a lighter, for one, and first try was perfect. Couldn't ask for more :)
