This is a restoration of a 1874 gras rifle. I hope you really enjoy the video and especially the gun stock. Thank you so much for Subscribe, Likes & Comments.
Good job, though it's a pity you didn't look for original missing parts. A huge quantity of Gras rifles have been made, so they are still quite easy to find and not so expensive. Find an original stock is much harder, though. You should try to find these parts, your rifle is worth it, as it's a very rare non modified one. Most of Gras rifles have been slightly altered in 1880, not yours, you're a lucky guy !
By heating everything up you destroyed the temper on the items. Never hear up a bolt assembly especially the firing pin and the spring they are now useless unkess you retemper them, same for the rrar sight spring. This is what you get when you let someone with no knowledge or skills work on firearms. Its dangerous to say the least.
oh dear...I've only cleaned up two antique rifles and never thought of taking a torch to the bolt assembly or anywhere really...soft bristle tooth brush or rags with oil always loosened things up well enough
