Re the Notts County vs Wednesbury Strollers controversy: it may be worth mentioning that there wouldn't have been a net between the goalposts. Nets were introduced from 1882 onwards, but at first they were placed around the pitch to prevent the ball going out of play and also to protect supporters.

Thanks for mentioning this. It occurred to me after doing the voiceover. It would certainly have been difficult to tell if the ball had gone in at times. A lot of matches have the scorers down as unknown as well due to the fact goals were scored from a "scrimmage" or "melee". I will mention both of those points in my next video.
