I need to synchronize the generator with the oscilloscope

Dear Tony, I think you permanently referenced the PSG ground to the coax ground (with that short wire), which is permanently referenced to the main ground like you said.

What is the lowest step you can tune that reference output? Despite there is no possibility to turn off the compensation inside the generator unit, there is still possibility, that if you tune that reference slightly off the 50MHz and input the "right" correction constant into that generator unit, you end up with much better results than you have now. The reference is stable. Even if it is tuned a little bit off the 50MHz. And that compensation is just a number that shifts the divisions/multiplications inside that generator unit, so if theese two things are stable, then the result must be stable too. Theese two things both goes in steps and the accuracy of the result depends on, well, stability of that reference, but also on how that two steps/values sits each other. So as I saw the long string of zeros in the reference programming software, I thought myself that maybe, maybe there is some space to improve the result of this modification. I know, it's a lot of fiddling with upredictable result, but, at least, it's easy to put it all back as it was if/when you realize that this was nothing more than nowhere leading bad idea.

how do the 3000 series hantek compare to this I'm torn I need a unit and can spend up to around 400$ this is for someone who I'm teaching and they need it to do whatever they will need and we know its now 1000+$ unit

In case of bricking due to firmware update failure, switch on ACmains button WHILE kepping pressed keypad "8" and push PwrOn once, then release keypad "8". This will bring up bootloader menu alowing you to reflash propper firmware. Just happened to me.

Hello. I'v made a GPSDO PCB for my almoust same generator JDS6600. You will have a problem - manufacturer put a little correction offset in the software of generator.
