Berliner records were the FIRST flat records that were developed in the late 1800s. They usually were around 78 RPM and had better sound quality than the cylinder records of the time. This disc was recorded in 1899 by S.H. Dudley. I slowed it down by 11% and I think it sounds good this way. Not bad for a record over 114 years old.
Obviously these records are extremely rare. I found this one in a box of 78s at a yard sale.

Alot better than the stuff nowadays. I want to walk around with this type of Ultra vintage stuff playing out of my smartphone, so everyone can get to hear nice clean majestically vintage tunes that much of the world has unfortunately sadly forgotten about.

You'd be surprised how long things can last. If it's been kept in good condition it will stay in good condition, I have a few 78s that sound pretty much like a vinyl record.

The correct name should be "S.H. Dudley", which is a stage name of Samuel Holland Rous (1867 - 1947), a veteran recording artist and later became an executive of Victor Talking Machine Company. Anyway, fairly good transfer. Thanks for posting!

Thank you for the clarification. I made the changes in the title and description. It still loks like "S.M. Dridley," even though S.H. Dudley makes a lot more sense. Glad you enjoyed the recording.

What is even cool is that back when they used cylinder recordings, some humans from those times lived to see the inventions of the 2000s and half of the 2010s. However, I believe that the humans from the 19th Century began to die out since 2010-2012. This is owing to how two of the last surviving world war 1 veterans died in 2011, and Dr. Denmark was the last surviving person born in the 19th Century known for something than just her longevity. I believe that after Dr. Denmark died, the humans born in the 19th Century began to die out because they were known for their longevity.

What stylus are you using? Is it the right size for the groove?
@ardie4
@ardie4 2 года назад
If it wasn't then the sound would bounce between sound channels audibly. This sounds fine; I'm sure it's been played a ton of times.

@@ardie4 what I was gonna say, plus a record that's somewhat around 120 years old has probably seen worse than a single play with the wrong stylus if it was

I would nearly guess the stylus would have to be trashed after playing this record. There would have to be damage !
@GEOFF0906

The early Berliners were made out of slightly abrasive material, so that the steel needle wore before the record did! In most cases, throughout the 78 RPM era, a steel needle could only manage one side of a disc. The diamond stylus in the player shown would be OK for many sides.

a good turntable like technics would have been better than this plastic toy to play this treasure but at least it didn't damage the record because the arm must not exceed 3 grams compared to the 150 or even 250 grams of the old diaphragms!
