the bloke i got this motor off cut out the year it was made off the plate but its mid 80s unknown hours and how many owners its had but all i did was new fuel and plugs. i did buy this motor to replace a johnson 25hp then sell the boat but i like this motor and still have the boat. very good on fuel while trolling lures less than a litre an hour

I've got an 18hp Nissan (97) same as Tohatsu, just an awesome motor. Had it on a 14 ft Zodiac MK II. Starts like a dream, on about 90 lbs (40 kg). Good on fuel when trolling. A lot more zip than my brothers 15 hp Evinrude. Not quite as heavy as 20 HP Yamaha 104lbs (47 kg), good performance. Tohatsu/Nissan built a GREAT little motor. :)

Goes like a dream, well matched to the hull, a keep, now load that boat up with fish and see how she goes LOL!

Its about a 1986. I got one too. I dont know about yours, but growing up my grandpa had a 25 johnson/evinrude and my dad had 9.9 and 15 hp evinrude/johnsons. The tahatsu blows them away not that they are bad motors, but man mine i bet would outrun my grandpas old 25hp. I dont remember it running as good as my Tahatsu. When i first got it, it was a rare find. I drove out of state to get it from a craigslist ad. Its near mint. When i ran it on lake 1st time, my bro in law had a gps ap on his phone and it said 27 to 30 mph 2guys and all our gear. Have it on a LOWE 1640MV jon boat. KInda scary for a little jon in rough water. With one guy it boogies down the lake quick. Not sure on mph with one guy. Whenever i upgrade to new fish finder il get one with speed sensor/gps. Now i keep an eye out for another one in 9.9. Nissan is same thing if you didnt know.

monsterman27 sorry I took so long to reply I am aware or some motor being different by name but turns out same block underneath type thing and 86 sounds about right and I think I am going to keep trying to get tohatsu motor from now on it almost keeps up with my mates 2012 high sided 14foot tinny with 2012 30hp Yamaha on it

I adjusted trim on mine and it planes out better now, but i get up to about 23 mph now due to more drag with the trim. Before i adjusted was getting close to 30 mph with less boat in the water at full throttle. Was getting spooky with one guy in boat, so i adjusted it and seems better but less mph. I put a good load in the boat too for fishing pretty much all day. Empty boat and one guy, might get up to same mph range maybe.

monsterman27 I know what you mean that video is with trim adjusted for more boat in the water than what it was set at on my 1st run with like 3 feet of boat in the water very light twitchy steering but higher top speed and very dangerous feeling

On mine the steering was real loose, i couldnt let go even at idle, which is a pain when trolling. I discovered on the side of the motor where it swivels around there is a bolt with a spring, which loosens or tightens how it swivels. Problem solved.

yea they are strong runners, but no way it will outrun a 521cc newer (1986 and up) 25 or 30hp OMC. These are way quicker than the 9.9/15 omcs though no argument there!

Marcus I think any videos I post while fishing would be filmed after the fish is in the boat and laying on the carpet not very entertaining. But was thinking about filming my project car and uploading that I just put a Subaru motor in a old corona

Yeah 39 kph and I believe still original prop not worth replacing yet. I had it out at the island the other week loaded up with gear and 2 people around 90kg each and was getting 34kph while heavy and in waves

i just brought a 3.9 meter stacer and has a 18 wondering if it will be fast enough.
