I’m glad you mentioned that if your running in turbo mode with that battery pack you will need a higher output then it provides. 737 is ideal for people that are juicing! Thanks for not misleading people, Great video and cheers!
What is the ui of where we can see your games @12:00? Is it playnite? If so, can you link what theme you're using and addons etc? Really looks awesome.
Do keep in mind, that vast majority of airlines only allow powerbanks up to ~25Ah (or 100Wh); anything in between 100Wh and 160Wh requires permission from an airline (and +160Wh are outright banned). So if you plan to fly anywhere, go with maximum of 25000mah powerbanks, otherwise you might kiss it goodbye at security gate. If planes are not a concern for you, go with whatever floats your boat, such as this Baseus.
the turbo mode when docked issue is a labelling bug, not a performance bug. If your dock or powerbank supports 60W, your ally will be in 30W even if it is showing 25W
@@AcidRain24 The ROG Ally performs best when it's in the famed 30W turbo mode. This means the device will draw more power to give you better performance. This is indicated in the command center when it shows "30W" - as opposed to the 25W setting. Right now, the only way to achieve the 30W indicator is to use the powerbrick that came with your Ally. If you use your 3rd party wallplug or a powerbank, your Ally will only show the 25W indicator, even if your powerbank/plug actually support higher wattage. HOWEVER, it's a *labelling* issue in command center, nothing more. If your 3rd party bank/plug supports 60W, then your ally WILL be in 30W turbo mode even if it only shows 25W. It's a UI bug, not a hardware bug.
@@AcidRain24 You can easily test this by using a charger that supports 60W. If your Ally is able to hit 30W+ then you're all good to go, no need to use first party charger
Great overview, definitely some things there I want for my Ally. Battery bank is a must really and oddly out of all the things you showed, the right angle USB-C adapter is high on the list!
Really enjoyed your video, I just got the ROG extreme 2 days ago, have an external monitor, xbox controller, have ordered a stand usb-c dock, and a 2TB internal hdd, and some Samsung ear buds. Out of this, I have ordered the right angle USB, bag, and keyboard. Thanks for the tips. I am looking forward to having my Rog Ally being my Windows Switch like gaming console.
30w in turbo isn't the problem with 3rd party docks and chargers, its the 45w boost in turbo and manual modes. When using the official charger you get 45w instead of 30.
I'd go for a egpu if you want more performance, the GPD G1 is what i use, now of course for on the go use, its not useful due, to it's bulk and needs to be constantly plugged in, but for a dock its pretty good plus its cheaper than the Asus egpu's although they are higher spec. Only down side is that it doesn't have a stand.
I bought a 128gb and inserted it in. Tried installing emudeck. It got hot and died immediately. Ill never use the sd card slot again. Ill rather get a larger dock that has an sd card slot to be safe. Imagine i bought a 512gb or 1tb sd card only for it to die a few minutes after inserting it.
2 more I got the nekteck 100w charger and charges the ally to 30w turbo just like the original and is white to match with 3 ports with a 10ft cable I went jsaux or Anker 100w cable not an issue. Also if you want a one big case to bring everything I got the Spigen case for the steam deck. It holds it firmly and a hardcase with tons of storage for everything in the go! Good video
I know... older vid. But.. i had to comment an appreciation for these! Like really nice suggestions bud!! Most of the others I've watched all suggest waaay odd stuffs. Lol. Yours tho hits all the sweet spots so thank you a few months later, care i just picked up the ally today and am going through the mountains of updates... 😂
New sub, I just got my Ally Z1 2 weeks ago I didn't opt for the extreme version. But how I use it I play a lot on xbox cloud and I use GeForce Now so I don't need the extra cores. Now I'm finding it to be my hybrid tablet/laptop during the day and at night i game on it. But anyways loved your video I might get that foldable keyboard that thing looked really cool so thank you for your video and sorry this is 8 months late.
You forgot the addon that I can't live without, Pico 4 VR headset (or Quest 2/3 if you're so inclined). Yes, you can play full desktop/steamvr games on the Ally, even Half Life Alex plays pretty well, just don't expect PC performance.
Oh, by the way, if you’re also wondering you guys can go pick up a stylus pin because I play Minecraft on my rog ally and let’s just say it’s very hard to move my finger
11:48 hi just got my thumb stick protectors and these were great because on my VR it was Finna like be rusty and then when I bought these like I could like it was still kind of rusty, but like it wasn’t rusty no more like I could actually move I could actually press it down. It was one of the buttons, not the buttons one of the you know it had a little bit of drift so yeah 11:48 11:48 11:48 11:48 11:48 11:48 11:48 11:48 11:48 11:48 11:48 11:48 11:48 11:48 11:48 11:48 11:48 11:48 11:48 11:48 11:48 11:48 11:48 11:48 11:48
I'm about to be picking one of these up in a few days but everything online says to just pretend the sd card reader doesn't exist. so, 7 months later, does your sd still work?
It says it has a built in mic but I can't talk in party chats ? Do I need headphones for friends to hear me I thought it worked like the ps5 controller has a built in mic and u can jus talk to the controller it's weird the asus I can use mic to like look stuff up but not to talk to friends
So many reports of it happening isn’t there. I went with the SSD upgrade which is easy and “safer”. Having said that, I went months without any issue of an sd card in mine.
@@MainCave Seems like Asus have been a little slack addressing this problem, seems like you have to just hope it doesnt happen and if it does your only choice is to spend it back for a fixing and wait a couple of weeks, been thinking about MSI Claw for this reason
Also I feel a bit begrudged to pay for one when there are decent free alternatives. Yes theres a free version but the paid one has all the bells and whistles.
@Main Cave awesome video, my Rog Ally Z1 Extreme 2tb arrives in a few days, can I ask what is that launcher you are using for your games that are displayed ? and keep up the good work.
Yep, 65W charger or powerbank will not help you to get into turbo mode when dock station is used. Official "dock" isn't dock at all, it's a useless garbage. And default paper "stand" thing is just a joke. Anyway - thanks for the vid. Good work!
Hi I just subscribed, I have a question? How is your SD card holding up? I’m scared to invest in one and I really don’t want to go through the hassle of upgrading the ssd
Hi there. Hate to break this to you but I upgraded my SSD. However, don’t worry, it’s not as difficult as you’d think. There’s loads of guides out there and I’d say it was one of the easier “mods” I’ve done. Give it a go.
I need precision rings tbh! These sticks are a little bit to loose for me. But the kontrolfreek precision rings dont fit. Anyone know of some that does ?
I have the asus ROG Ally and I travel with work, I have the spigen tough armour case, this is for the steam deck and ROG Ally but it offers amazing protection, its a clam shell case and has a protective velcro strap to hold it inplace when transiting also has aa large zipped pocket with a hidden zipper inside for memory cards, in the large pocket i can fit the officia, charger and my aerox 5 wireless ateelseries mouse, it feels premium and is made from quality materials and all for a decent price believe it was around £30
Yeah, unfortunately the Baseus is in and out of stock and seeing as it’s an Amazon one link Amazon decides where to take you. I try to keep them up to date but it changes more than I can.
literally added everything you shown in my cart lol, did an amazing job showcasing everything as well as providing a second options just in case my only question is for using with a monitor, would you recommend 1080, 1440, or 4k? I don’t expect top graphics with this especially being I have a ps5 with my 4k monitor. Looking at getting a second monitor and just curious what i should look at for the ROG? again thanks for an amazing breakdown. Definitely added a 👍🏽 (hope you see this before time to purchase 🙏🏽)
Here’s for that. Glad it helped. As for the monitor I’d say 1080 as you’ll get a much better framerate but if you can get 4k may as well as you can still run 1080 but have the 4k option.
Found this a brilliantly informative video. Can I just ask. I am actually thinking of getting rid of my rog g20 and just using the ally for both on the go and at home. Wise or not? This video kinda tips me towards doing it.
I don’t own the g20 so can’t compare. All I can tell you is that I’ve really REALLY enjoyed using this. Surprised me when I got it how much I use it. The only issue is the battery sucks, but just get the battery bank. 👍🏻
@@MainCave yeah I got a big anker power bank and I get easy extra 3 hours on performance mode playing red dead. I haven’t even turned on my gaming pc since getting this so I’m really torn
Is it safe to use an sd card I’ve been seeing reviews saying that the system as been frying the sd card making it unusable, so I am hesitant to buy an sd card at the moment.
@@MainCave heard there is also an issue with installing a new Ssd. saying that you would essentially have to bypass couple of stuff in order for it to actually work idk.
Still shit i have external sd slot in my usb c hub works just as good but you have a dangly thing on it no problem for when its docked but awkward when handheld
Hey thanks for the video and info. Stick covers and protectors are good ideas. Just a few questions, I have the same Baseus charger but am only able to get 20 V and 1.7-2 A. So nowhere near the 65W it can deliver, are you having the same issue and what cable do you use. Also having issues getting Turbo mode with 65W and 100W chargers, are there differences between newer and older chargers or is Power Delivery specs different between US and rest of the world
Not if you want to use bluetooth. If you want 2.4 then youd need a dock to accommodate the dongle (or just plug it in the top usb-c which is a bit awkward)
That powerbank is great but if your going on holiday you can't have it with you on a Airplane. Max allowed is 27000mAh (100Wh). Those are the rules here in Europe, can maybe be different in the US.
@@ChrisRainHeart From what i've read. You can have 2 powerbanks with you but the total amount of them together can't be over 27000mAh and 100Wh. So you can have 2 this big or smaller: 13500mAh (50Wh) + 13500mAh (50Wh) = 27000mAh (100Wh) in total. The easiest way to know for sure, is to call your airline company.
@@VizioN-Scope One correction: limit of 2 powerbanks only applies to powerbanks in 100-160Wh range + requires permission from the airline. Anything below 100Wh is not limited by any means.
What’s the point having keyboard, mouse and controller for handheld. Just get yourself a decent laptop or pc. Depicts the purpose of being a handheld machine.
Can't speak for the user but me personally I use one on my phone sometimes just if I'm doing typing or using DEX. If it fits in your travel bag and you got the time it's fun to game like that too (I'm a controller guy tho). And as previous said I'd love a gdp win max 2 but they are $$$$$$$$$$
Lmao if you don’t agree with buying the accessories with this why even watch the video . Clearly it’s not for you . This is obviously for those also who may travel and maybe want some things that are portable to pull out. It’s not crazy he made this video
