I actually use some of these hacks. I like learning new ones. One I swear by is using the plastic party cups to start my tomatoes. I fill the cup to only 1/3 full, plant the seed and then add soil as it grows. This gives the plant lots of rooting area and makes for some stout plants to put out into my beds when the weather warms. I also use cottage cheese or yogurt containers cut up for plant tags.

For a small family that doesn't use that much toilet paper and for us poor planners who wait until the last minute...the box idea that he gave is golden. But yes, your idea is lovely too. If I can get my two young boys to cooperate...you know how kids are, they will likely just throw them in the garbage next to the toilet. SIGH. Plus I like the idea of taking off the tape and letting it expand. and the ability to manipulate how big or small a container you want. This also impacts if you want to up-size planting or not. I would prefer NOT unless I want to go ahead and transplant into the big container of their permanent home...

Kiddie pools from dollar general makes for a cheap 6.00 herb garden! Ive had one going for two years now and its been growing like crazy! Just remember to poke holes in the bottom. Avoid plastics. Cut angled slots in cardboard "pots" and slot the ends into each other. For plant spacers use waxed fruit box cardboard at spaced length with notches each end or longer pieces with multiple notches on the side. Use paper cups not plastic cups. Tags - bend metal strips to hook on side of beds or use as stakes Drowning weeds is a good old traditional gardener tip, make sure you weigh them down with a brick, paver or tile.

@@annemcgirt5296 Moles are not rodents and have no attraction to the things that are normally used to attract rodents. They are primarily insectivores/carnivores, but will also eat subterranean vegetable matter sometimes. If you have a big problem with moles, you might want to ask yourself why - they are attracted to land that has a lot of grubs/larvae in it and as such are ridding you of future insect pests, some of them serious. There are plants which are said to repel them, or there are ideas for making sounds in their tunnels which keep them away. I always use the soil in molehills for seedbeds, it is pre-sifted for me!

@@LaMarquiseDeparis Indeed! Gather the fine, fresh earth and sweep the few crumbs remaining into the grass, it will not be noticeable by the next day, and mixed with a little sand and some homemade compost, makes a beter home for your plants than anything which can be bought in a shop. If someone cannot tolerate a few molehills, and feels they must kill the moles rather than try methods to repel them harmlessly, they need to know that a mole will not tunnel into ground that contains nothing for him to eat, and that what attracts the mole is the presence of underground invertebrates - mainly leatherjackets and chafer grubs - which if not controlled (by the mole, who is doing the job for free, and without using any fossil fuels or polluting anything!) will do a great deal more harm to whatever is being grown than a tunnelling mole ever will.

Putting slugs in salt is a nasty thing to do. I know they’re bad but salt will melt them like water melts a sugar cube. Just mean.

@@ZenGardenOasis.Lol, I just dumped a worm bin in my garden probably 10 years ago.... and planted a few trees. The birds are great about cleaning up things like slugs and grubs.... now if only they would take care of the roly polies.

For my seed packets that are left open after using them are folded in paper towels with some powdered milk in them. It keeps all the moisture out of the Little seeds.
