If you don't feel comfortable or not allowed to carry pepper spray, a small can of hairspray is a great alternative. Not only is it legal but it's great for hair on the go as well.

Since I was in college my friends always told me I was such a mom, I’ve always carried a ton of stuff! And now that I have a toddler you don’t even know the stuff I bring.. My not always essential recommendations are: - Summer’s Eve intimate cleansing cloths (specially for THOSE days), they are individually wrapped -extra face mask, sometimes I accidentally drop mines and I always have a back up one -chapstick -hand cream (all the hand sanitizer got me bad) -small sunscreen (Reapply every two hours!) -reusable travel straw -eye drops -KOSIN safety alarm keychain -PACSAFE anti theft bra pouch (greeeeat if you make exercise outdoors)

Love the sunscreen. Also the reusable straw. I'm disabled and it's hard for me to drink without a straw. Many cities where I live are phasing out straws. Eye drops again an amazing idea.

I’m surprised you didn’t include a pen! I feel like I’m always needing a pen for like signing receipts and stuff. I also always carry a teeny tiny tub of Vaseline or aquaphor for my lips or dry areas on my skin, and either a mini hair clip or Bobby pin. Oh and some allergy/gasx medicine! Cool video, got some good ideas from you :)

I agree completely I carry pepper spray and a little sharp knife because you have to be prepared for anything, I carry everything you mentioned but you forgot the altoids always fresh breath is a must and pantyshields 👍

Shea: When I get a headache, I retrieve my VICKS VAPOR RUB that I always keep in my purse, I get a very small amount and put it just barely on the inside of my nose. Nine times out of ten, head ache is gone! Now, it says on the label of the jar not to put it inside the nose, but I do it, just on the inside. Have been doing it for over 60 yrs, and I'm still here, and healthy. It's your choice. It's just what I do.

Small wallet, keys, phone, pen, sunglasses, folding hairbrush, lipgloss, 2 tissues, 9 hand sanitizer wipes (or XS bottle), mask, emergency whistle, compact reusable shopping bag - *done!* I prefer carrying a small crossbody -and hate heavy bags- so everything else is in a tote, left in the car.

That’s ok imo if you don’t carry a big bag...as long as you at least have it in your car then it’s great. Because You never know when you might need some thing in an emergency. You’d be surprised.

Where are the eye drops? Just saline can work wonders on your eyes for allergies, tired ones, or grit. Get them in a single use then they don’t go off.

Eh...let it go gray. I did. I look awesome with it. NOTE on the pepper spray. It must be easily accessible and set to point in the right direction or it's useless. All my bags have their own inner organizers and the pepper spray goes in its own space pointed the right way - I'm left-handed and the crossbody hangs off my left hip. I set it so I can reach in, pull it out, point without thinking, and know it will hit whomever is bothering me. And I practice, practice, practice. And test to make sure it works. And also practice self-defense because you can't rely on having the space to pepper the weirdo.

Hi Shea, I always watch your content and sometimes I buy stuff recommended here. I felt I need to make a comment regarding Miranda Frye quality. It is the worst quality fake jewelry I’ve seen. Fortunately they refunded me for my unforgettable (the lowest quality ever!) purchase but it was my first and last time buying from them. It’s a shame that their beautiful designs has such a poor quality. I used my necklace once for an hour and I hanged it on my jewelry holder. It changed color and was rusted one month after purchase!

**DO NOT** hang your bag on a shopping cart!!! If you can’t get groceries without carrying your bag on your body, your bag is too freaking big. This is the number one place you’ll get that bag or wallet stolen - as a former grocery manager, I had to remind women to hold their purse all the time, would leave it in the cart and turn or wander away, leaving it wide open for theft. BAD BAD BAD

Just a tip from my self defense class be careful if you ever use pepper spray because you can get spray back when used or leak in your bag which will leave you vulnerable. My teacher actually said keep wasp spray in your car, it sprays at a long distance and still be effective!

Yes to pepper spray. You just never know. A couple years ago I was walking my dog in a totally safe area, and an off-leash dog ran up to us and started attacking my dog. I owned pepper spray but just didn’t have it with me in my bag at the time. I really wish I had had it. (Btw my dog made a full recovery!) But to that end, you should always keep your pepper spray somewhere easily accessible, like an outside or inside pocket, or somewhere you know exactly where it is. Because when you really need it, you won’t have time to go rifling through the bottomless pit. Not trying to be depressing, just trying to share some advice!

I agree about the wet brush. All other small brushes aren't useful and I think pull at my hair. The wet brush is a smaller version of what you use all the time. The only thing I have in my handbag that you didn't mention is a center punch. I live in Florida and it's something that I might need that you wouldn't. I know that you can take your headrest off for a center punch. But I feel like that would take too much time and effort. I also have a swiss army knife. I use the knife part quite often, the only issue is if you go to a government building or an airport, it's considered a weapon. You have to remember to take it out of your bag.

The Bim Bim sounds incredible. I get so tired of blindly feeling for things at the bottom of my bag. Body wipes are a great idea, and of course now, you always have to have a personal size of hand sanitizer. An absolute yes to pepper spray. Having 2 daughters, I always want them to be safe. I carry an *extremely* loud emergency whistle instead. Lightweight, on a lanyard (for hiking), and can be heard for more than a mile. An attacker would likely flee immediately, fearing the sound would draw attention. And, unlike a knife, taser, firearm, or pepper spray, an attacker wouldn’t take it and use it *on me!*

A B - They’re available in most stores that sell hiking/camping gear. I bought mine at REI. Here’s the link, and I see that they also have several others, including a very nice titanium one. Frankincense essential oil in almond oil as a carrier works really well for headaches too. I buy the little essential oil roller bottles. 🙂

Love these items except the Magic Root Cover Up - I tried this and honestly it smelled like I was spraying my hair with gasoline! It covered the grays, but I could not get over the smell and worry that my hair might fall out if I continued to use it.

Try waterproof mascara. I'm a hairstylist and my clients use it in between color services!! Works great. Apply then brush when product dries!

Pepper sprays are illegal here but you know what isn't? Hairspray or those small 30ml bottles of cologne/perfume. They don't do as much damage as pepper sprays but they're hardly pleasant!
