10:24 The reason for two gertrudes (and several other quest NPCs) was that in RSC, only one player could talk to an NPC at a time. Gertrude was a popular NPC as her cats were a source of a large chunk of the games death runes. So keeping two of her around made sense.
I have a quirky useless information about RuneScape! Above the Lumber Yard (on what would be the 3rd floor) there's an invisible NPC called "Guardian" when you examine it, it says: "He guards things." I found him while noclipping a few years back in the area, it's not doable anymore and it wouldn't be there anyways since they reworked the area.
Who remembers when you'd click to run somewhere and your character would run in the opposite direction for a moment. It actually felt weird when they finally fixed it.
@@Mote_Plox nope! I remember they posted about it when it was finally fixed cuz it took them ages to figure it out 😂 once in a while, I still expect it to happen
I have literally always been clueless about the museum when I do air orb runs. Always wondering what that area was. From the edgeville dungeon near the earth obelisk and air obelisk ladder, you can see the very edge of the museum. I never knew how to get there and now I do thanks to this video. Thank you for teaching me about that, Mote Plox!😊
OH MAN, I can't wait to get back home, some some big doinks and stare blankly into the screen while I'll be consuming all of these facts. I've not played this game for 2 years, but a video from you will ALWAYS make me watch it no matter what it's about
I think the Drill sergeant was probably meant to host a bunch of random events. Perhaps there was supposed to be one for each piece of the camo gear? I could also totally see the player tending to wounds in the infirmary and being rewarded with HP exp.
MY MAN IS BACK YESSSS. Got back into osrs and have been grinding cuz of u my g. You seriously have shaped my childhood and i genuinely would love to interview you and talk about your channel and the struggles and everything. Ur historical timeline video gets me thru some of the most depressing times of my life man and i cant thank u enough for that. It really would be an honour to just talk to you my G ❤
Great to see a video from you again! It was nice to watch you when I was in high school from 2012 to 2016, and it's still just as fun today. Now I am a Group Ironman in Old School RuneScape and I'm enjoying every minute of it.
Caught this a bit late, but it's always a good day when I get to watch a new Mote Plox video! Gotta say, those old versions of trade parade (especially the '05 version) sound super nostalgic. I started playing back in late '04, so 2005 was when I was really learning the game. I still absolutely love the song "Scape Original", as it's the version of the song started with. Fantastic video as always my guy, and I absolutely can't wait for what's next.
Probably the reason there are two Gertrude NPCs there is because in RSC only one player could engage in dialogue with an NPC at a time. This would create bottlenecks of players waiting for their turn to talk to certain NPCs, which was often a problem when a new quest came out. Creating a second copy of the NPC nearby effectively doubled the throughput for players trying to start the quest. I recall that there were also two copies of King Narnode at the Grand Tree for this same reason.
18:00 you actually used to be able to walk around the whole Camp! I remember my friend being teleported there, and you had to talk to the demon to start the event. He did not know this, so he Walked around for days, trying to find a way out. Talking to the demon also gave some options, cuz we tried talking to him, but we didnt know english back then. Eventually, after 2 months of being stuck there, one of our friends older brother could read the text and guide us through the event. I also remember clicking on some stuff that you were able to interact with, but you were cut of by the demon telling you (presumeably) to come to him. This has been early beta maybe. 2004/2005
I’m just back playing RuneScape and watching RuneScape vids again and literally thought of you tonight and here you are with a new video.. what are the chances? Lol
I have to say i have seen a ton of these type of Runescape vids and many of them have similar information but i have to say between this vid and the other one from few months ago had actually contained some things i havent heard or known about. So kudos to you because i didnt think that would be possible lol
I remember back when I first started playing and stuck to F2P for like a year or so and I kept seeing these people come in from the members' worlds with the ava's accumulator on for some reason... I was dead convinced that having the accumulator on would unlock more inventory space, I never even asked them what it was for or what it did, I just assumed, and was 100% convinced and unassuming of any other possibilities, that the accumulator was a roomy backpack in which you could stuff more salmon for your trips to farm limpwurt roots at the hill giants. Eventually learning that it picks up your ammo for you, as cool and useful as that actually was, I was really disappointed since I'd looked forward to another row or two of inventory space... So much so that I never bothered getting it until starting anew over on the old school servers, years later.
Hahahaha! I love that. I can totally understand why you would've thought that as a new player back in the day too. I just thought it was a cool backpack that had no use at all. 😂
I was thinking literally just yesterday that I hadn't seen a Mote Plox video yesterday. It was meant to be. Also 20 year RS player here with over 25k hours logged. This is the first video where I didn't know one of the things brought up a head of time. Props.
Interesting thing about the military random event. When it was new, you You weren't actually confined to the push up area. They only added the ropes because some players were getting confused and wandering off
Killing shades watching this and noticed the braziers in the Mort'on catacombs share the same model as the ones in the OSRS museum and also spit little runesparks!
More plox!!!! I can go years without playing runescapes but I'll never miss your uploads! Been a fan since I was a kid. Now I got a kid myself. Crazy to think about.
I just watched an old soup video where he tried to use the RSC chat color changing in current osrs. It didn't work, and he was wondering if this was ever a thing. Then I see your video and see that it was a real thing, that's awesome.
True I don’t know anybody who was a RuneScape fan growing up who isn’t a nostalgic junkie. The game even upon first play had a nostalgic vibe to it to begin with honestly
Great video! You're channel will always be the one thing that makes me come back to this brilliant world. Please give us an irl update video We care! ps. maxplox when? lol :D
Fun fact amongst useless other ones, you can actually get "deal with it" glasses in RS3. Sorta.. they are black glasses that when you examine them they say: "Deal with it." kinda cool.
Speaking of changed NPCs, I noticed a couple of years ago that they had updated King Percival's model in the Fisher Realm but it seems to be completely undocumented in the wiki. He has short black hair with a crown on top of his head but he used to actually have a helmet beneath the crown. If you search for old video guides from the early years of OSRS you can still see the old model, and it seems like the same design is still used in RS3
the mask in the range shop in varrock is the final helmet from swords and sandals, nothing to do with MF doom :) Swords and Sandals was the thing everyone was playing before RS, so they gave it a shout out
I just found out about the museum yesterday while doing a clue scroll. Was very cool. I’m wondering how long it’s been around and I never noticed. Love that osrs has a bunch of random small things all over. 😊
Every time I see old runescape I get a bit sad, because it was back in a time where the game was about exploration, experiencing things with other players and doing what an MMO was actually originally designed around, but nowadays it's all skilling, and that's literally the only thing the game has to offer :( I remember playing with friends back in the day and we'd just do quests, explore around, show off our houses and other things and that's what runescape was about for me, but because the requirement to do literally anything outside of the F2P areas were always something like "you must be 75 magic to pass here" we didn't get to explore most of anything without being stopped. I kind of wish that runescape did something different to change things up in a way, like make the 99 level requirement 1 mil of XP instead of 13mil, while keeping the actual skill cape itself at 13 mil, so the people who just want to explore around could still beat those requirements in a reasonable amount of time while the people who want to feel accomplished with how much XP they earned could still flex their cape if they wanted.
I think i clicked on this video faster any any other. Thankyou for making a new video Mote. I know your life got busy and I hope it at least got a tad bit easier.
For people who wonder why people play RSPS this is why. So many cool facts like the Runecape. I like being able to utilize the hidden gems in the OSRS Cache
Missed you man been a while since i’ve been here lol! Good to see you again man, from a long time fan! my name is Imabakeduck lol maybe you remember me, helped pick the motherboats name for the CC way back then!
When the Drill Sergeant random event first came out you weren't enclosed in the middle. Players got confused when they'd run around away from the task (the 4 mats) so eventually Jagex just enclosed everyone inside that spot only.
From 2004 to probably 2007 you used to be able to use symbols in place of a space when you log in. If your login name was "mote plox" and you logged in by typing "mote@plox" you would log in and the @ sign would show on your chat screen, nobody else could see it though.
10:11 Omg I forgot you could do the colors on the login screen I remember that. I also remember it going away and then I just forgot about it until you reminded me now 16 years later.
It's wild to me that on the Yoptin survey, Vietnam can't be selected as a home country but The Vatican can I guess Vietnamese people didn't play RS Classic but the pope did
Honestly I think the second version of the Trade Parade sounds better than the one we have now lol. Thanks for the video, these are always a joy to watch
I don't know if you've covered this already, but another useless fact could be that in RS3 you get 0,1xp per cut log on Miscellania. On osrs this is still 1xp. If I remember correctly this was originally changed because the NPC takes away your logs allowing you to cut endlessly without having to drop or bank them. (Correct me if I'm wrong about the exact xp's).
