Love it. Some of these guys give would be anglers the idea you have to have a $20k boat packed with gadgets to go on the water and have a blast catching fish! NOT TRUE.Nice to find a realistic fishing channel.
All you need is a boat and one rod. I actually enjoy fishing from my paddle board more which was about $450 I think. I just take some Senkos and Flukes since you can fish them both off the same hook. It's nice to focus on fishing instead of fishing gear!
Those same $6 storage boxes you showed are also great for storing your battery for a fish finder. That's where I keep mine and it's in my milk crate behind my seat.
OK. Great informative videossss. I just went from one to another as I am thinking about buying a kayak again. Haven’t had one for forty years but loved it then. Did some crazy shit back then, surfing, rapids and all that but just want to enjoy the quiet and do some fishing now. Great tips and reminders. Thanks so much. Now to find a kayak that suits my wants and needs.
Some states actually require you to have either an air horn or a loud whistle on your boat per regulations so the cheap air horn is a great one to throw into the milk crate. There can also be regulations for running lights before dawn and after dusk so the LEDs are a great option. Just remember that you need a green (right side) and a red one (left side). Always love finding Walmart hacks. Great video.
Behind the seat backpack! Can't believe I missed that. I think my behind the seat cooler might be too big for it though. I bought a little pack that sits above the cooler but not much space in it and not very secure closing.
Ahhhhh the bungee mesh will be great to keep my pool noodle pvc jugs nice and tight to save space. Im using milwaukee packout stuff as a kayak crate and have their crate locked on top of their toolbox. It's expensive but they have a pretty cool setup that can be used for tackleboxes and gear. fits great in the back of the old town pdl 120. They even have cooler and first aid boxes. Everything locked into each other as well as being water resistant.
@@wendellfishing ye man personally I think I weigh to much for a dog lead to anchor me. How does the LED setup work? Do you have a video on that? Im sure I could DIY something but it would be cool to see it done
@@wendellfishing Missed the Steelhead runs at TrailHead. Eagle Creek North keeps the Zionsville fly fisherman busy! I’m a slow adopter to kayak fishing… last year I installed a rooftop adapter (cross bars) for the Jeep to be ready for a kayak mount… yeah, slow adopter! I’ll keep watching until you break me down. Glad to see the channel growing!
@@HopeInitiatives Right on! Let me know when you grab a yak! I have some videos coming out on buying fishing kayaks and inspection guides for buying used.
I used flex tape for a couple of pretty bad crack in a bucket that I really needed that day for work and I didn't have time to go get a new one. That was a few months ago and I still use that bucket.
Great video. Never heard of a few of those ideas. Where in NE Ohio? I'm in Berea! Thanks for the video. Going to subscribe and check out your other videos!!
Brand new to kayaking..love ur channel. Actually ha my maiden Voyage. Any inflatable specific content? Although alot of ur stuff crosses over. Oh! And any hacks for waterproof floating dry box. See name brands for qhat I consider kinda expensive
Hey PG, I don't have anything inflatable specific. I've never owned one (I do have a belly boat) but somewhat different. Waterproofing a drybox. I actually have been thinking about a video for this to protect my new nocua battery. Stay tuned on that one.
Good list i like it might pick some of these up for my yak. Just a heads up anybody seeing these my buddy had a auto inflate pfd lost his lower unit few months ago and his pfd didnt inflate him and his pops almost drowned luckily the cord made it inflate. Since then i switch to a good kayak pfd dont go cheap on the important stuff
@@wendellfishing you should! That cord was 40ft. They have small backpacks right now and those containers fit in my life jacket, I have one for slip bobber rigs...just without the bobber.. worked great on last outing got 20 crappie that day
Yosdad, you know, interestingly enough, 19 was strategic as studies show that the CTR for odd numbers in list is higher of that of even numbers. It's weird but I play the game :)
20. If your seating area isn't limited and you have a well opening to get under the seat purchase the folding boat seat, make a seat template to pattern the bolt up holes onto your kayak measuring for seat center & leg length, drill holes, bolt up seat using large washers the larger the better to have a better anchored seat. Make sure you've double checked measurements for centering and leg length before drilling holes.
so you walked around WalleyWorld and looked at things that might make kayak fishing better but never bought a single item or showed us a practical application? damn im in the wrong business!!! lmao
Some great ideas however one critique, dont let the fish beat the hell out of itsself inside your boat. Just get a strong enough line that you can get them in the net or quickly put them on a gripper and put them back in the water while you get your cloth or gloves or whatever you want.
This isn't a walmart hack ( unless walmart carries it) but Niteize has a cell phone tether card with a tiny key ring attached that you put under your phone inside your phone case and out of the charging port hole. Then you clip the bungee that comes with it onto the inside of your pfd pocket ( if you have one) and the other end to the ring. No more phone holder tethers that you can't even see your screen through. I just leave it in my phone case at all times. Have had it for almost 2 years now. I can't believe I haven't seen anyone in the kayak world talking about it.
You talking about this one? www.westmarine.com/nite-ize-hitch---phone-anchor-tether-19273697.html?&PMax:%20GSC%3eSmart_Shopping%3eElectronics%20&%20Navigation&gclid=Cj0KCQiA0oagBhDHARIsAI-BbgdcyWjd9-JgLRpiBoMxnL4CXBb8YyYYUz8YRuLo9UTHFYvX_xBBhiMaAgKsEALw_wcB
@@wendellfishing Never understood why anyone would give some huge corporation a free plug by making a video showcasing them or paying money to buy their t shirt and wearing it. Don't turn yourself into a billboard for some company unless they are paying you.
Just be aware, salt water will destroy about 95% of these Walmart items. They are cost effective, but you'll likely be replacing them every year. Products specifically for boating/fishing in the salt are comprised of stainless steels, graphite bodies, durable canvas and heavy plastic zippers (as opposed to mild steel or aluminum zippers with pot-metal pulls). There is a HUGE difference in quality. I especially think that the retractable dog leash for an anchor rode is an unsafe option. Those will rot out on the inside or at the clasp and will likely fail at the worst moment. Also bear in mind that the inflatable vests are only valid as a PFD when worn, these will not meet the USCG safety minimums when stowed only.
Thanks Kevin, but your comments on the inflatable vest not being valid unless worn is not entirely true. It depends on the state. For Ohio where I live.. it just has to be USCG approved and doesn't have to be worn. paddlecamp.com/kayak-life-jacket-laws-by-state/#:~:text=Kayak%20life%20jacket%20law%3A%20Anyone,they%20are%20in%20the%20vessel.
Everyone can’t always afford the top-tier, best gear for everything. It’s okay to find ways to fit hobbies into your budget, even if you’re not able to spend $60 on under-seat tackle storage. It seems like that was the point of the video; you don’t have to be rich to enjoy a sport/hobby.
Man this was a good video but what to buy for your kayak. I have a lot of those things. This was a perfect timing video cuz it just reminded me that I need to make some flip flop leashes for me & my 6 boys because all 6 of my son's have very wide feet & i have very very extremely wide feet & we all have to kayak Barefooted 👣 style. I would like to try to find some wide sandals that we can wear while kayaking. Me & my 6 boys don't mind being barefooted 👣 because we are Barefooted 👣 95% of the time but it would be nice to have some type of sandals on for when we have to get out and walk in the water & not tear up our wide feet we have. My wife loves mine and my six boys wide feet for some reason & she wants us to take protect are feet out there. This was a good video & thank you for reminding me and sharing this video.
@@wendellfishing you're welcome man. Yeah you should try the flip-flop leash I think you'll like it. It's a good way to hold your flip flops if you want to be barefooted 👣 while kayaking. I lost #1. of my flip-flop today while kayaking cuz I leaned over too far in the flop fell in the water and the current took the Flop into the trees and it took a half an hour to get it out of the trees so a flip-flop leash would be good. I made some for my family right around October or so and I don't know where I placed the bag so i got to go back to Walmart and get me some 550 cord and some carabiner and make me some more.
Wow, looks a LOT like a video I just watched, made 2 years before yours. I guy goes to Walmart for "kayak hacks" and gets a lot of the same exact things you did. what are the chances?
The Walmarts in Canada have none of these things. Basic stuff at Walmarts in America you can’t get in Canada. Walmart in Canada is actually pathetic. They carry virtually nothing but clothes and groceries. Walmart in Canada is actually embarrassing. I can’t get any of these basics at Walmart in canada. They barely carry any of their own branded outdoor gear. I hate Walmart canada, Canadian tire is our store for almost everything with this stuff. Liking the vids I’ve been watching, have fun fishing
I use a old broken fishing rod, take the eyes off except the next to last one, sewed up some fluorescent orange cloth (from Walmart)and slide over top of the rod. Zip tied the rod to the crate.
Always anchor front or rear. Never off the side. Side anchoring or tying off will capsize you if the water is moving or the wind is blowing. Retractable clothesline is almost always longer than the dog leashes, but usually requires more work to get it setup on a kayak. You can never have enough bungie cords or carabiners. Water in your kayak? lol. It's an SOT, take out the scupper plugs. That's what the holes are for. Sponges and pumps are for touring kayakers ;) Besides, half the point of kayak fishing is getting wet ;) Hey that tow line, you can tie it to a clamp, like you were questioning in your other video, and clamp to a tree, bush, dock, pole, or whatever is available to hold you in place by the bank. Just like with an anchor, do bow or stern, not side.
Thanks TC, usually just fish lakes in my pedal powered kayak so that may bring some insight on why I was not a fan of the brush gripper, but I can definitely see how others would find it useful in their specific scenarios. Good point on the anchor!
@@wendellfishing Wendell, that guy probably never heard of a Yak attack anchor trolley , I installed a deluxe one before my Tamarack pro hit it ever the water. Works great when the wind kicks in at Kiser Lake, St. Paris, Ohio.
