A 19-year-old man who was reportedly in mental distress was shot and killed by NYPD officers in Queens on Wednesday after he allegedly charged them with a pair of scissors. FOX 5 NY's Jessica Formoso has the story.

Mom should have stayed out of it and maybe her son could have lived to see another day. She should be charged with interfering in police business. If he came charging at the officer with a weaponized pair of scissors than the shooting is justified. Why didn't his mother get him help before it got to this point! @@rashidi_nn Bottom line Police are not social workers. Father or not, if you have a child living in your house it's your responsibility to get them the mental or physical help they need. Your making a lot of emotional assumptions and that is the problem with black folks. Number one I'm black and don't classify myself as a minority period. Secondly, I was born and raised in the hood; my mother worked her way out of the projects and my father was not in the home. She didn't make excuses about what she did or didn't have or couldn't get. Bottom line the son was violent with a weapon in his hand. Maybe the police could have talked him down if his mother had not physically gotten involved. The police isn't going to stand there while a man is lunging after them to do physical harm with his weapon and neither would you. Thank you for your comment!

The eyewitness report of his mother states that he didnt run with the scissor towards the police officer. The mother further states that he was all the time by his side and they called the police themselves to get help. So either the police is lying or the mom is not recalling correctly what has happened. At least there is body cam proof.

I saw the news and they released the footage. It’s sad bc the cops tried everything to get him to drop the scissors. The mom protecting her disturbed and armed son actually interfered by pulling the taser prongs from her son and allowed him to grab the scissors which the officers were forced to use their guns. Very sad all around 😞

Why did anyone not request a CIT OFFICER when they realized that the person was having a mental breakdown or aim to shoot him in an area where it will not be fatal. Family members need to step out of the way in EDP situations those situations can get really hectic unfortunately the person in distress max get rough up while being subdued but people need to realize that subduing a person suffering a psychosis or mental distress in itself is difficult but it can be exacerbated by family members who understandly react the way they do yet these are potential outcomes and results. My heart goes out to the mom I know the conscious and hearts of the officers are heavy
