The is the second of a two part series of silent movies about how cars worked in the 1920s. This episode explains how the engine works and uses hammer and canons to explain how the pistons move.
We've stabilized and remastered this video, added a soundtrack and generally made it more watchable. The original video is in the public domain and we retrieved it from the internet archive.

Thank you so much for making this video. I love the way you have thoroughly explained everything from the start and progressively building up further and adding more elements as the video goes on. I might be a bit late with watching this series, but your channel is literally the only channel I have subscribed and clicked notification alert for. Sincerely hoping that the series is still continuing. I'm looking forward to watching the next available episodes. Thanks again!

There is no such thing as an explosion inside the cylinder to push the piston down. It's not an explosion. It's fuel and air mixture igniting and burning. It doesn't explode it just ignites and burns. It is a tightly controlled burn within a sealed confined cylinder. As it ignites the hot air expands and as a result it pushes the piston down.
