Aminah Nieves is an incredible actress and award worthy. When the Nun and the Preist whipped and punished her, I'm sorry but I wanted to beat them beyond recognition !! ❤

My family and I We Watched 1923. What Aminah’s Character endured. The scenes are very Hard to watch (I was Yelling and Cursing at the fictional Antagonists) But I understand why those Scenes were created. the writers and producers of Yellowstone wanted to give audiences the bigger picture about Native American boarding schools Those schools aren’t built to help indigenous children. Those schools were built to harm indigenous children and to destroy ancient Native American cultures and languages.

This scene is only 18 minutes, but very hard 😢

@Zackary St no dude. My family went to these schools. Its simply called an attempt at genocide. We were beaten, starved, tortured, raped, and killed and dumped our bodies in mass graves. They did not care about the welfare of the children.

Tyler Sheridan continues to show his brilliance with his stories and there are uniquely true stories about indigenous people 1923 brings the truth of the forced subucation that was cruelly bestowed upon the Native Americans it brought such a mixture of emotions that swayed from anger to cheering on Aminah's bravery to sadness of the assault physically and sexually I cant imagine and it's not something that can be erased from history or your mind I live in Canada and to know all of the Native Children Burial Sites that they've been finding across this country shows the nature of cruelty that they endured My great great great grandfather is Mi'kmaw and I am nothing but proud of that piece of history I have within my family and my blood

As someone of native heritage I can't even express how important this role is. Very grateful this show depicted history as it happened and VERY proud of her!

It’s not historical though. Maybe for Canada or America earlier but by the 1920’s those kinds of schools were going away. Also, you like being portrayed as cannibals?

Being a Catholic in a Catholic school, in the 1960’s, having undiagnosed ADHD and being left handed I had the crap best out of me every day. Not as brutal as in the show but daily and harsh.

@@justinkeppler9860 that was the times just like racism was more prevalent. Realize the military didn’t diagnose PTSD until 1982 . Science/behavior studies /cars, phones ect. most things have changed astronomically since I was a kid.

So 1923 is chock full of seasoned actors including the fantastic Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford, which makes it a little crazy to cast a complete nobody in what is arguably the most pivotal role in the series and without doubt the one complex character who iis transformative and tortured (physically and mentally) throughout each episode. And this woman just slays it. I had to watch two episodes twice because I came to believe I was becoming so enamored 2:12 of her that I was conning myself into believing I had discovered her. And nope. I most certainly was not. She’s that great. Ridiculously talented but with the deft subtlety of a seasoned pro that is necessary in this role because much of her communication is unspoken and left to small facial gestures and physicality and posturing so slight as to defy description. An adept viewer will surely come away with the opinion that Aminah is the unheralded star of the series and pray that some agent snaps her up and carefully places her in shows worthy of her bountiful talents.

THIS YOUNG WOMEN HAD SUCH COURAGE TO SHOW THE TRUTH OF HOW NATIVE AMERICANS WERE TREATED IN ALL ITS CRUELTY. LIKE IN IRELAND THESE RELIGIOUS NUNS AND PRIEST BEHAVED THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT JESUS TAUGHT AND GOD DECREED "LOVE THEY NEIGHBOR AS THEYSELF". TAYLOR SHERIDAN IS LIKE THE SHAKESPEARE OF OUR AMERICAN WEST. THE WORDS HE GIVES HIS ACTORS RING SO TRUE THE SIMPLICITY OF LIFE AND DEATH OUR WEST. Susan

I hate to break it but 1923 is stupidly inaccurate. By the 1920’s the most infamous Indian schools were closed here in the US and the federal government was investigating abuse. Canada was the country that went the opposite direction and kept it up until the 1970’s. Also, most staff at schools were Americans, not foreigners like on the show. Moreover, the depiction of Native Americans as cannibals isn’t too kind, either.
