I have a Westinghouse 16 inch 1930s vintage fan in great shape. I had it restored years ago and it looks great, high medium and low is great, it oscillates well its just noisy. Like a loud humming. Any idea what the issue could be. I watched your video and think it may need to be lubed… is that a correct assumption?

It’s a Westinghouse model 516873-A.

It could be just needing to be re-headed and oiled. It could also be electrical. Hard to say without seeing it hands on.

I’d like to repair a one speed Zero fan but I know positively nothing about repairs. I can hear energy going to the motor but it can barely spin. As long as energy is going to the motor does that mean the motor doesn’t need replacement? Thanks!

At best, it means the coils are possibly energizing. But there is no way to know until you check the resistances on the coils and do a visual inspection as well. Some motors have two coils. A main coil and an auxiliary coil. One can be good and one can be bad.

Was the case pressed together? How did you get the motor apart?

Yeah exactly that's the whole reason why I clicked on this video, to see how the goofy case comes apart.... And that's the one thing they did NOT show 🤦
