@@What.its.like. Interior would've put some Fords to shame. Hmmm🤔.., Maybe Willys-Knight for sleeve valve engine. Ford A's are too common. Chevrolet? Perhaps if it's a 6. Agree Dodge has most attractive styling.
Hi Jay!: Whippet! Whippet Good! (nyuk, nyuk) But seriously, this was and important car in its day! About the only thing that was a direct competitor to the model T and later the model A Fords. I believe this was the engine Willys used in their cars during the mid thirties. Later on it was modified some and became the "Go Devil" engine for jeeps as you mentioned in the video. WYR#1 is darned hard! But I will have to go Ford A here, as interesting as the Whippet is! The A had a tiny bit more horsepower than the Whippet, also. #2 is even more hard. I was all set to say Whippet, when that Falcon-Knight was mentioned!! Going to go with the sleeve valve here, those are SO interesting!!
Hahaha funny thing is I had that in the video but I took it out because I thought sounded stupid, I lost my voice earlier yesterday I put this episode together then and it just didn’t sound good like the intro didn’t sound on point like A generally does, i’ve been camping in my van last couple days and I did it in the van and the acoustics aren’t the same as in my kitchen and echoes more in my kitchen so I don’t have to talk as loud I had to like yell into the thing to get the same audio, Great choices =) Thank you so much for sharing that insight and information
Really nice to see that car isn't a trailer queen. Great that it's being driven and maintained. As to the size of the starter -- with a low compression engine there isn't a need for a powerful starter motor.
I love that car show because people use those cars and they take people for rides and everything else it’s just one awesome experience you ever get a chance to go definitely go
Chevy is my favorite but Willy's were strong running and plentiful 👍. But Dodge has styling 🤔 1 Chevy 2 Dodge 👌 Great Episode loved the color combination on tonights feature .... Happy Motoring ✌️🤠
Me too its what drew me to it Super cool rare 50s car coming up really soon I’m going to try to make that the next episode we have a falcon night in the pipeline I’m still doing cars from the Greenfield Village I think I got three or four left Nash ohv 6 1904 st louis Falcon knight 1924 packard from museum Great choices =)
Glad you dig this episode I want to do it with a truck I missed out on my opportunity when Classic Automall had one I don’t know if they still do I can’t wait to go back there, that probably won’t be until next month though =)
WYR - I’ll take the 28 Chev thanks! I’m impressed with the Wippet Jay, made the year my mother was born, whilst watching this vehicle, I was reminded of the ‘28 bullnose Morris my older brother and I found in an old shed around the corner from home once when I was around 8 years old- 48 yrs ago now! I guess the Morris isn’t well known in your neck of the woods. Thanks for all your hard work mate, it’s appreciated by all of us too !
Thank you so much for sharing all that with us that was really cool your mom was born in 1928 =) Glad you dig this episode i love covering cars that no one else talks about this channel exists for people to get information easily about cars that information isn’t very obtainable I always love a challenge, there is a really cool rare 50s car coming I’m going to try to get the episode up either Saturday or Sunday I might get to go for a ride in it today maybe I’ll give you a teaser video..
Great choices falcon night is going to be featured on here I got to do a bucket list car yesterday I’m going to try to post that Saturday but I’m not making any promises I got a lot going on Saturday..
My dad said that a neighbor in Niles Center had one with a disc transmission, possibly a conversion from an older Lambert. They were quick little cars, and nice looking! Thanks Jay for the tour of the Whippet; better than riding in a Greyhound. 😉 Keep on enjoying Greenfield Village!📯 🌿
Normally, I'd choose the Chevy, and I also like those early Fords, but that Whippet is enticing... Same with the 2nd choice... I'd usually go with the Dodge, and that Falcon Knight is exotic, but think I'd go with the Whippet. The song sounds familiar, but I can't put my finger on it...
WYR: 1928 Whippet for both. I’ve mentioned this before, but my grandfather had a whippet six cylinder. As you noted in your video, light and high-performance (and Toledo made). Grandpa was 6 feet tall, and apparently had no issues fitting. This was the car he modified for more performance to tool the family around in. Thank you as always ~Chuck.
I can't say that I know anything about these cars. The "Whippet" has a special place in my mental hard drive. When I was a kid, my Uncle gave me his first hand built metal detector (He was an electrical engineer/designer). I took it around my yard, then went out around the ditch next to the street out front. The first thing I found was (Albeit very bent) a "Whippet" wheel center cap buried about 3 inches under dirt.
=) If you can go to that experience next year I definitely recommend it to anybody that’s into the Classic/vintage car hobby it’s more than a car show it’s an experience
Seeing is believing……if you hadn’t presented this car in a video, I doubt I would have been able to accept that a $550ish car could have as good a build as this obviously has! Great find, and excellent report.
For WYR, I'd pick the Ford, then the Dodge. This is a nice-looking car, but I did get the impression just by watching this it is hard to get into. We are bigger than people from the twenties... nutrition is better than it was back then.
hi jay from australia i enjoy your channel and the video you posted on the whippet it was an eye opener my dad brought a whippet in the late 1940's renovated the car as it was 20 years old by that time it would have needed an amount of work i belive his mother had to swen up the seats plus renovated quite an old car then he never took a photo of it so i never knew what a whippet looked like i know it had a rumble seat as my mother often mentioned how they took her visiting aunties from interstate for a ride in the car and they were in the back in the rumble seat out in the weather so it was great to see your video on that car /i wonder how many of the 300000 whippets made that year were sold in australia international figures would be interesting keep the great work going thanks kym roberts
I had to make a name that tune a little bit harder it’s a song off the beaten path but anybody that likes this band knows this song.. Can’t go wrong with all if those =)
In the movie COOL HAND LUKE, theres a scene where Lukes mother visits him laying in the back. im wondering now if that was a Whippet I have to go back and watch that movie
28 Whippet for both The engine picture was incorrect it showed a 6 cylinder engine not a 4 cylinder. If the band Devo owned the car it would be this because they like to whip it whip it good!
I kinda like the model A and the dodge. I am not sure but I don’t believe the top comes down on that car. It’s a landau or something like that. Model As had them also.
Yeah the top does go down on this model they never put the top down because they are a pain to get back up plus a lot of times top shrink overtime we had one at the Classic Car dealership I worked at last year the top actually shrunk and we could not get it to go back up.. Great choices
It must be model A in the first scenario, and none in the second. I don't want a car that I can't get parts for relatively quickly and easily, so before 1930 it's either Model T (which is useless for daily driving) or Model A. Naturally, Bugatti, Alfa etc, but it's a completely different price range.
I totally agree I have a 52 Chevy 1 ton truck that parts are easy to get for it’s just hard to find people that wanna work on it people don’t wanna work on vehicles unless they can plug the computer in and tell them what’s wrong with it it’s a crazy world we live in I really miss the old days I grew up in the 90s I remember yard sales with people selling wheel covers there used to be wheel covers as far as the eye can see that world is gone
@@What.its.like. I'm no mechanic, but on things this old I'll usually be able to (reluctantly) do most of it myself. I grew up keeping old VWs on the road. It is possible that a Chevrolet from the 20-30s is manageable in the US, but I live in Europe. I can't go to a swap meet in Allentown Pennsylvania looking for parts for a 1928 Chevrolet... But I can find most things for a Ford A from the same era relatively locally. And there are dedicated helpful clubs for the Model A. Things like this Whippet would just become a museum piece that I wouldn't dare take on long tours with. An interesting car, but not something to keep in the garage. For me.
The way I do videos I would not be able to do TikTok people also have been asking me about rumble as well it’s hard to keep up with the two social media platforms I’m on I just have RU-vid and the Facebook group.
Ah the picture is wrong quick internet search for four-cylinder whippet engine and that’s what came up I should’ve been due diligence and fixed that, right specs wrong picture Here are the specs www.conceptcarz.com/s17520/whippet-model-96.aspx www.wokr.org/gallery/wh96his.htm
I honestly think it’s from the hormones that they put in the food they put hormones in food for the animals to get bigger and we eat the animals and we get bigger..
Stop torturing me with these super hard songs. LOL! I loved this car but as I said in the past, I wouldn't want any pre 1940 car unless it was a retromod. Gotta have a modern power train and brakes.
I honestly can’t believe nobody got Name that tune yet I had to do it instrumental tracks It makes it harder =) You could run the original engine just change out the Final drive rear end gear Chrysler was hydraulic brakes from the get go
Whimpet has a better styled body, while the ford has a nicer roof. Chevy was probably made in a Pakistani street factory, poorly copying the other 2... ...yes, people were smaller and not fat... If the overweight persons were politely asked to leave the event, for not being period correct, you'd be left with 3 people!
Very true I blame the food they give hormones to animals and we eat the animals and that’s why we are bigger too.. not just fat but overall bigger taller bigger bones etc
