The institutional censorship of the 1930 Sherman Riot began the moment it started, and 91 years later, it's local county censorship still continues. During our research, we found where records were destroyed, cut up and censored by local townspeople. In this video, Father Wesley Evans of Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church in Sherman, shows us the church records (or what's left of them) for the Sunday immediately after the May 9, 1930 riot.
If you'd like to learn more about one of the largest race riots of the 1930's, you may visit our website at shermanriot.org. Grayson County Judge Bill Magers and his Commissioners Court of four other (white) people, want nothing to do with approving this State of Texas Historical Marker. But have to get their permission to place a marker on the Courthouse square, because the riot began at the courthouse which is county property, which they officiate over.
Visit our website and sign our petition. On this video is the name and contact info for Judge Magers and each Commissioner. Call them, write them and email them. Tell them to do the right thing.
