The stop-motion animation at the beginning was really clever. I have seen a few examples of these pre-WW II toy tanks, and they are surprisingly realistic as compared to contemporary designs of the actually vehicles.
This is the coolest thing I have seen in quite a while. Great Job, especially the tracks....just genius. I could watch that tank go over obstacles all day. Hey, I'm retired, what can I say. The body reminds me of the 3D metal models that I build with all the tabs and slots but, yours is on a much larger scale. I've done quite a few tanks also.
Great thanks a lot I’m glad you enjoyed the video, was going to do some more obstacles but decided the video was getting a bit long. Thanks for the comment and enjoy your retirement. Rich
Very impressive how you not only restored the toy tank but also made new tank threads for it. It looks much better and it works like a charm too. Excellent work I must say.
Excellent work in restoring this vintage toy especially with making new caterpillar tracks...I love how it even sounds like a tank with that wind up motor. 😎
Beautiful job, I'm thinking that one advantage these old toys have for restoration is that the metal is thick and soft making the tabs less likely to break.
You’re right, Triang toys in particular have very thick metal not sure if the tabs would take a second straiten and bend though. I have had them brake before, very frustrating when your finished with spraying or the item is litho printed. Thanks Rich
This was one of the old-timer iron toys that I never found featured on the Chip channel. It's an old-timer combat tank that uses no treads. On 2nd thought, was it supposed to have combat tank treads? It's definitely not a combat tank of the future. 🍟 🍪 🍟
Hi yes this was originally made with rubber tracks but most have not survived. in fact I’ve only seen one or two with the original tracks, And you’re right they won’t be modelling future tanks on this design. Cheers
Nice restoration of this old toy! A bit of a weird design but even by the 1930s most militaries didn't know what the most effective tank design could or should be. And I guess for the child playing with it, it didnt matter. The tank is looking brand new. I couldn't have done this myself I would have thrown it away. Thank you for saving this toy!
Good restoration well done nice job! Seeing as the Tiger I tank didnt appear until 1942, I would guess that the Tri-Ang tank is late 40's rather than 1930's as you suggest.
@@recollectable4258 Okay thanks. But how could they name it after a Tiger tank when Tigers didn't appear until 1942 is all I'm saying. The bottom tank in the link looks like a Sherman. Well, Shermans were not developed until 1940-41. Naaah, Tri-Ang have guessed the age of the model!
Surely the point is that Triang simply happened to call their toy tank a 'Tiger'- not that it had anything to do with the German wartime tank of the same name...
Hi. Watching the hands with their ten articulating digits, five on each articulating arm, dismantle the intricate toy tank device, supports my long-held belief that aliens have to process equivalent physical attributes to have built their multi-faceted space crafts. The universe follows universal laws of matter. Electricity, for example, has to be harnessed the same way as it is today. This requires intricate construction. So a fat blob of alien being and a inter-planetary space craft are antithetical. Thank you. Good video.
Hey, cool vid. I know on live auctioneers website they call this a tiger tank in quotations. My guess is you took your info from them, and that they used the term tiger as clickbait. The actual German Tiger tank was not in use until 1942 and is a massive scary beast. Unlike this obviously inter war baby. Not a Tiger.
Hi thanks for the comment Who knows, I get the information off Triang website www.triang.nl/earlymodels.htm. Also If you also check the video at around 9.08 mins it has Triang tiger tank pressed into the metal, but at the end of the day it’s only a toy. Rich.
I do Marine repair and restore Muscle cars from one professional to another you knocked this out of the park wow blown away with the time you spent making the tracks very well done. I do have a question though I studied a little on clock repair and you always put a tiny bit of lubricant on the pivots for the mechanism I was wondering why you left most of it un lubricated? I am not knocking the restoration at all just a question why you left most of the pivots dry . Thank you for the video love it
Hi mad man mechanic thanks for the comment, it was an enjoyable project, what a job you have doing muscle cars must be great 👍 With regards to the pivots I definitely remember clock oiling them but with several hours of filming it will of got edited out. Thanks Rich
@@recollectable4258That is cool dude ! I am in the process of restoring and old school American made Solvent tank its going to be nut n bolt restoration all new wiring lights , pump switches . and paint its built like a German Panzer really thick gauge American made steel . I had it out in the yard for the last 20 years just kept putting on the back burner. I looked on You tube the only videos you can find are Harbor Freight up grades there are no total restorations of American Made Solvent tanks. I think mine might be the only one. I have no clue what the hell I am doing never done this before. I am going to put in a Canister style fuel filter to filter the solvent on the side of the tank I have the filter ordered and on the way. But I have been videoing and it going to go on my New You tube Channel I started last year. Since you are old school like me thought you might be interested. Have a good one dude keep up the good work Roger🙂
I usually use glass bead find this great for most of my projects as it produces less dust. If something is really thick painted I might change to a coarse material. With regards to the pressure I tend to leave the same but will adjust the distance of the gun from the item to suit.
@@recollectable4258 Это да. Танк на гусеницах, да ещё и самодвижущийся! Хотя если посмотреть на современные игрушки - гораздо больше всякого странного )
Dude can I get your help? My account will not pull up either You tube or SEO the only way I found out was the UPS lady wanted my user name she was going to subscribe to my channel and she went on her phone and it was not there . I just went in to youtube put in my user name Mad Man Mechanic and the only thing that shows up is Mad Man Mechanics in the UK I can go right in now into my account when I go on the RU-vid site. Its active Can you help me this sucks I have been posting like crazy lately when my business shut down. I gave my user name to a guy last year at Star bucks and it punched it into his phone and it popped right up. Could I have pushed some button on my account to not show up on RU-vid or SEO ? This sucks been working really hard to post more content thanks
Got to admit I couldn’t find your channel searching mad man mechanic it only returned mad man mechanics. Found your channel from @madmanmechanic8847 , can’t think why it’s not appearing is there some kind of web chat you can ask RU-vid why. Sorry I can’t help on this one, hope you can sort it out, I’ll keep an eye out for your videos.
@@recollectable4258 That I dont know not sure I posted my first video about 11 months ago I think my SEO is buried . But what was weird about 5 months ago talking to a dude in Star bucks I gave him my user name get went in on his phone and my channel popped right up . Now it wont. I did go on RU-vid site and pushed in my user name but had to scroll down through the guy in UK but it finally did pop up. It has to be some setting . Maybe I pushed a wrong button . Thanks any way man
In some cases I agree that restoring an antique toy would be of interest. However in this case you have destroyed the collectible value completely and ended up with a new/old toy. The cost of restoration rarely justifies the ends.
Hi Yes in some cases I would agree, I have some items with beautiful patina I wouldn’t want to restore, some I show and others I intend to show on my channel, however in this case the item was rusted both inside and out totally seized and in my opinion was a good candidate to restore, most collectors toys are in original condition and its always a matter of personal choice, to me it’s not always about value. Thanks Rich
To what end though? Why does everything have to be a collector piece? This is a toy. Before, it was junk. I would have sat on a shelf in some thrift store or been stored on a shelf with a million other worthless Knick-knacks ready to be carted off to the landfill the next time somebody is clearing house. Now, it’s ready to be properly displayed OR given a second life as a new toy again. Just because it’s not what YOU would do with it, does not mean it’s the wrong thing to do.
