Not to be confused with various later same-named songs, this “Hold My Hand” was composed by British songwriter Noel Gay as the title tune for a 1931 London stage production. To hear the multi-tempo Ray Noble/Al Bowlly recording, listen here: • 1932 HITS ARCHIVE: Hol...

I've been listening to my collection of Maurice Elwin recordings today. He was a wonderful singer.

Though the sublime Noble band version takes top honors with me, the ever-reliable Lally outfit pleases with a sprightly tempoed treatment of this engaging number.

What can I say? Great music comes from any era. However listening to your channel has led me to believe that the majority of the great music was in the days of yore!

I'm really loving all your recent posts and it's so strange as the songs you posting I have been thinking of lately then lo and behold they appear.

Although I know this recording, it's really interesting to hear it on an American pressing, without the handicap of UK Decca's "recycled asphalt" surface quality. Although the Chenil Galleries' dire "felt bag" acoustic is still there, it's still noticeably better sounding here. Nice one!

After the comment about Decca UK always having the recycled asphalt, it's pitiful that they had the "Supreme Record" on their labels
