I'm not an antique fan expert so some of the information I'm saying may not be completely correct. Also make sure before you start working on anything electrical that you unplug it. I keep saying original cord when I'm removing the power cord but the cord going to the wall is not original to this fan. I was able to decode the motor tag and find out that this fan is actually from 1932. Check me out on Facebook at @charger383mopar and charger383mopar@yahoo.com and don't forget to like subscribe and click the bell to stay up to date with my latest videos.

Just wanna say thanks for posting this. I rewired one for my daughter and never could have done it without your videos. Thank you!

Your fan videos are very helpful. I found a 71666 in a pawn shop for $40 and was able to bring it back from the dead-- the rotor would barely turn. Working now though. Thanks!

Nice video. Thanks for posting them. At 24:40, the switch ...if the sliding action is loose and sloppy, then you can use a vice grips and carefully compress the aluminum rivet that holds it and that will stiffen the action. Just don't press too hard -set the vice grips so that they don't close down all the way on the rivet. It beats using a zip-tie.
@Charger383Mopar
@Charger383Mopar 5 лет назад
The switch is not sloppy. The contact was not making a very solid connection so I put that zip tie between the switch arm and the contact on the switch arm to make it have a little better connection. Thank you for the tip on the rivet. I'll keep that in mind for any fans I get in the future.

Back from a time when if a fan was spinning you didn’t stick your fingers in.....no need for warning labels....guess people were a little smarter back then 😝.....cool video

Oh nowadays, parents would let their kids "experience" that feeling and not try to restrict them from learning from experience.....*cough* :)

To get out the stator you can get a 2-inch piece PCB pipe and then tap it out when it's in the center

Very nice Emerson fan. I have that same model but the collar is broken and it is missing the oscillator arm. They are awesome fans. I also think that it is cool that you know the history of that fan because sometimes I wonder where most of my fans came from.

A fella named Daryl Hudson makes reproduction screw in grommets for the Emerson fans as well as a host of other parts. Go ahead and look him up I have bought several items from him in the past. Nice job. God bless.

I have a Junior 2660-B I am fixing up. There is a side screw on the blade hub. When I remove the screw, there are no threads on the shaft. Is mine a pull off or a screw off then? Thanks!!

Hi Charger, I am attempting to restore an Emerson 1930s---40s? Pedestal fan. It works but starts slowly and the "choke coil" buzzes. I think I need a capacitor and choke coil but don't know where to find the parts. I also have an Emerson desk fan from the same era that I need the complete switch and coil for. Do you have any idea where I can find these parts? If I can't find the parts, is there a way that I can upgrade the wiring using modern parts? I would much rather use "original" type replacement parts but if i could modernize the wiring I would do that too. Thank you for your consideration. I enjoy viewing your instructional videos. Best, Richard

Ooh, this is the super secret project you were talking about! Specifically fans right? Since I'm an electrician I like anything electric, especially old stuff. I mostly keep it to Audio, which I'm hearing you now through. A 1970s Marantz amplifier. We don't really have (old) fans here in the Netherlands since its usually too cold too have a use for them. Most of the year we have the heater on. 😄 I immediately saw you didn't unplug it first, I have experience with shocks so I'm pretty alert on that. 🤦‍♂️ I like this new thing you do. Only things I'd like to add is that your car videos are done with daylight and I must say that this might be a bit dark indoor for some stuff. Some extra lights possible? A different angle? Maybe both?
@Charger383Mopar

I will be trying different things with lighting and different cameras or angles. I just wanted to get this one done. I finished the fan yesterday but I didn't have time to edit the video so it will be uploaded a little later today.

Interesting video. Where did you get that rotating ratchet?
@Charger383Mopar
@Charger383Mopar 3 года назад
That ratchet is probably from the early to mid 1980s and it was my dad's so I honestly don't know.
@Zackthefanman76

I know on some of the older Emerson's from the 20's they didn't have holes in the rotor to put a Allen wrench in so you would have to use a strong stew that was the right thread.

I tried to get through it, but it seems like there were ads every 4 minutes.
@curiouscharacter1
@curiouscharacter1 3 года назад
More like every 3 minutes for me. Also, when it's filmed with the fan in the way of seeing what he's working on it's kind of difficult to visualize exactly what he's doing back there. Probably easier for fan collectors with experience rather than a noob like me.

Fiber washers, wow. Not easy to find, any suggestions for new?
@Charger383Mopar
@Charger383Mopar 2 года назад
I haven't personally ordered any but you could try McMaster-Carr. All you would need is the dimensions of the washer you needed. www.mcmaster.com/fiber-washers/

To get the blade off the most easiest way is to keep the gearbox in. You take out the top left screw. You get another screw about a half inch longer same thread I think 10 and a half by 32. You then screw the screw in to you contact the rotor to lock it up. That's how you get off real tight Emerson blades

I have a Manning Bowman 51 and I think I’m missing a gear. Do you have a video that shows the inside of the gear box of a similar fan? Also I believe I’m missing some of the fiber rings that go on the front of the rotor between it and the fan blade because when I got it there was a lot of “play” between the blades and the housing. You could actually pull the fan blades ab half an inch forward and then move it back. First fan so I’m in need of help and or advice. Thanks!

I would check with some of the fan groups on Facebook. You should be able to find someone else with a fan like yours who can help you. Also check with the Antique Fan Collectors Association www.afcaforum.com/

I believe these fans had felt on the base originally so if yours still has it it may just be stuck.

@@Charger383Mopar I figured it out. A tar seal between the steel plate and cast iron base. Likely from and old repair.
