This is newsreel footage, captured from 16mm film, of the 1933 Chicago Worlds Fair. It was located on the site which eventually became Meigs Field. This is part 1 of 2. This film is silent.
I abscond any little piece of memorabilia I can find for the 1933 World's Fair (not sure why), so this was so fun to watch. I can't believe that all of this is gone now. Thank you for posting this.
I have a 'oriental' carpet under my dining room table that my grandfather bought at the World's Fair. He also bought a dining room set and a bedroom set. My brother still has the dining room set. Wish my mom had seen this video. She was born in 1920, and died 2010.....she would have loved this video. I was amazed at the 'modernism' of the time !!
Wow, it's great the footage has been preserved. Would love to know if you have more footage from the 1933 Chicago World's Fair for a documentary I'm working on. Just sent you a message. Let me know!
@MaryEC88 If you find them, click on my user name and send me a private email. Tell me the exact timecode at which your grandparents appear, and I'll take a snapshot from the original footage (which is much higher resolution than RU-vid permits) and send it to you.
At some point it would be ridiculous at how they imagine the future in the past. But now we can learn how modernism imagination of the past put impact on our lives nowadays. Anyway loves those art deco curves!
