Very nice. This is the first time I have seen photos of the inner sound box of a Maccaferri. very interesting instrument. The repair job looks great. It would have been nice to hear it too, but cosmetically it looks great.
Stunning artist, I'd say. One-and-a half finger working only on Django's L hand. Think of him having five? Joking only, cannot be any better. Some extraordinarily rare ppl don't weigh down by physical limitations.
I was just reading from the book The Story of Selmer Maccaferri Guitars - "The back and sides of bodies were almost always made of laminated Indian Rosewood, although there were few late bodies made of Brazilian rosewood. The Indian rosewood came from Ceylon, the mahagany from Cuba and the birdseye maple from North America."
Really cool, except the refinish. My opinion is that it ruins all mojo the guitar can possibly have. "Looks like a new" is the last thing I would want from real vintage guitar. What sort of finish did you use?
The original finish was covered with some kind of poliurethane badly brushed from a previous repair work. There was CA glue everywhere. So It was impossibile to rescue the thin original finish. I used a thin nitrocellulose laquer that can be french polished in it's final stage
