You're wise to show respect of the crank handle. My Father broke his arm on one of those.

Beautiful patina on that machine. You ought to leave it like that and put a clear coat on

thats a good way to break your thumb.allways keep your thumb on the same side of the crank handle as your fingers are so if it does happen to backfire on starting and they do it wont break your thumb the crank handle will just give you a good wack on the back of the hand

Good day When you were trying to crank it, My dad always said put thumb behind crank. Is this one prone to kicking? I never had any problems . Our neighbor had a W-30, I only recognize back wheels, put flat head V-8 in it. Could not keep it cool. Thanks
