With rationing during the war, we couldn't get sugar or jam and margarine was at a premium. Rationing in Britain extended for some time past the war, until 1954 for some foods. I don't think almonds would have been considered essential here. We cooked with what we could get.
Love your channel found you by looking for proper English cooked food my husband said my cooking has improved 😃 keep up the good work much appreciated by you both 👍
Well blind me that was a proper pudding and no messing. No powdered eggs? Come on Butler let's have a knees up and you can have a tinkle on the ol' Joanna.
As my old chef lecturer told me at college in regards to the rings. If anything bad survives the heat of the oven it deserves to live! 😂 another corker the Fanny and Johnnie of Lincolnshire 😁
Another one of my all time favourites Martin and Sharon are you going to do steak and kidney pudding or bacon and onion roll My ol dear used to cook these years ago Great video
You two are the modern day equivalent of Fanny and Johnny Craddock (one for the oldens there), all it needs is Martin in the background getting pis.........tipsy on a sherry or two!!
Love the video martin you make us laugh so much testing the tart it looked yummy you forgot to say sharon put the kettle we will have a cup of tea with my tart. Phil and Jackie In stoke
Great video guys it reminded of helping my nan make a bake well and remembering the recipe was very similar to that one passed down from her mum and a similar result at the end it was awsome I dont like to days factory manufacturers rubbish so definitely going give this 1 ago thanks for sharing

No not g&t you need a sherry, then watch , watch with mother or muffin the mule. Hehe never seen thst recipe before, Looks good however, I wonder if the almonds came in during early 50s my mum always made with almonds and icing on top. It was divine. Must try the one you have showed us today. Thank you.. must say after much not being sure, I have an air fryer on its way for my Xmas pressie . Our son cooked for us today in the ninja they have the 9, something double basket oh my word the chips were lovely. Well all was nice, but the chips really surprised me how crisp they were. So will just have to get used to it and we will be off hehe. Thanks for this one, old episode but going through your u tube entries slowly. Hehe
Just loved it when Martin mentioned growing up in the 70's, me too, childhood memories love it, reminisce all the time, keep those recipes coming guys. x Jean
Hi guys, another great video. You two were made for each other 🤗 Good mindful cookery. Is there any chance of knowing the title and author of the book?
I just love watching you two. I live in Washington state USA and it's taken me a bit to get use to the names of recipies and what you are cooking. It's funny how we can make the same things, but they have completely different names. I have to admit, one that confused me at first was when you made, I believed they were called "spotted balls"...lol! I did buy an air fryer after watching you cook with yours! 🌻🌻🌻
Martin makes me laugh when he says to Sharron how great it is with his help cutting the lemon up 😂. That music and martins actions when he taste things 😂 . Sharron is such a good cook brilliant guys love watching
Really late to this channel but my Nan in the 60,s used to buy bakewell tarts from a Westham lane bakery with no icing on top just one almond in the middle of each cake., looked exactly like what you made. Yum
