The Rams still 3 years away from becoming the first pro football team in history to wear helmets with logos, when star RB Fred Gehrke, being paid $1 per team helmet, painted the iconic horns on all of his Los Angeles teammates helmets. R.I.P. Fred Gehrke🏈
wow! 1945 nfl title game in color.ww2 ended only months earlier. This is great to see, the NFL begining as The most popular sport which it became in the 60's and the war/merger with AFL.
TheRedbaron Lives!Thank you for subscribing. And yes this 1945 Title shows how NFL gameplay is evolving from it's rugby roots. And as the 1950's began, rosters expanded meaning players no longer had to play offense and defense. Also the 1950's saw what became the model for what became modern gameplay on both side of the ball. And with the advent of TV, the game was seen by a wider audience. suddenly the passion and drama of the game became very exciting. The College game was already quite established. But it to began to shed it's rugby roots. That's how the game developed into what it is today. And it's still the greatest thrill in the world.
Also In 1949 the rams wore color combo looking just like SC Trojans!! Could you imagine when they changed their uniforms in 2020 if they were red and gold and both SC and Rams had same colors!
@joefaller4525 The Boston Braves overcame a 4-18 start to the 1914 season to win the National League pennant. They then proceeded to win the World Series in a 4-game sweep over the Philadelphia A's.
In those days they’d see this in a movie theater several days after the game was played and anyone with the least interest in the game would have known the score, read about the game in the paper and might have listened to it on the radio. In 1945, TV was only in the big cities, set owners numbered, at best, in the very low thousands, even in NYC, and wide spread TV ownership was still 5-8 years away for most of the country.
Todays players may be bigger, stronger, and faster but they don't have half the toughness of these guys...physical or mental. The Redskins fullback breaking his nose on the first play of the game but refusing to leave the game and running for a first down on the next play is a perfect example. Plus these guys weren't making millions of dollars a year either. They worked real jobs just like everybody else. I can't stand the NFL anymore and I'm about 99.9% sure it's scripted. The playoffs are DEFINITELY scripted
