Thanks. Sorry for the late reply. I can't take credit for the condition of the bike. The work was done by the previous owner. She runs very well and I am looking forward to covering many miles on her this year. She is a keeper. RegardsChris
I believe that the fork seal retaining sleeves should be chromed and by the wear scrapes I think a new set of bushes top and bottom would help. Thoughts?
Hallo Chris Robinson, my father's had the machine from 1938 until 1951 when he came to Australia. I was born in 1943 and I was too scared to get on it. I had an older brother (he was six years older) who died of incorrect medication (when I was only one and a half). I was ridiculed by my though father who kept telling me that the son who died was scared of nothing. Boy did that help to make me tough for my teen years. I am blessed to be alive.
Andrew, your story is interesting and a testament to hard times post war. I hope life has been kind to you over the intervening years. I don't know if you are in Australia still but if you are ever in England and near Doncaster in South Yorkshire you are welcome to sit on my Matchless and have a ride. Best Regards. Chris Robinson
Chris Robinson, it is good to hear from you Chris. I am still in .Australia. I will be in England for about ten days in January. I will be visiting my best cousins. One bunch is in Bristol. I do not know where the others are, but I am sure that my cousins should know. All the best to you and you have safe riding.
A ride on the back can be character building, say 100 miles return. You will enjoy it when you obey the road and any bushes that grow alongside close enough to obscure your view when cornering through hilly country. A 1 3/4 dual seat enhances the feedback, yet the engine had plenty of torque for x2 10 stoners.
Hi Chris... Awsome bike.. i’m from brazil and i’m restoring one exactly the same as yours. But i’m losing my hairs off trying to find the parts over the internet. Do you have some hint where i could find them? Thanks.
The best place is the A J S & Matchless Owners Club Spares Ltd, Unit 3 Robinson Way, Telford Way Industrial Estate, Kettering NN16 8PT, telephone 01536 511532, email - www.jampot.com. You could also try Russell Motors, 125 Falcon Rd, London SW11 2PE, telephone - 020 7228 1714, website - www.russellmotors.co.uk. Hope this helps. Chris
