Up close views of the interior and exterior of my 1949 Piper PA-16 tail dragger. I'll share in part. 2, the complete radio intercom set along with how my foldable fat tire bike fits in the back.
I will be doing major aircraft maintenance upgrades this summer including recovering both wings and overhauling a Lycoming O-320 engine. This engine will be going on this PA-16 Clipper.

If you missed the first PA-16 video, be sure to check it out. Link here: Buy a plane and land in your BACKYARD...everyone does it, right?! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-t2bGxJpgcc8.html

What we need is a scaled down part 103 lookalike. Such a classic look.

FYI- I'm currently gathering new parts for an O-320 engine build to install later this year. I'll share it as I build it, be sure watch for the progress if you're interest. (It will be a work of art)

Great airplane! I have a pa-17 on my front yard waiting it’s turn in the shop for a complete rebuild. Finishing an Aeronca 11ac now. The 17 has been in the family since 1968. I have about 700hrs in it. C-85-8 powered. Short wings are great airplanes, just keep them as light as possible!
@Blaircraft.Engines
@Blaircraft.Engines 2 года назад
That’s great! It’s good to hear that one is almost finished. Having the PA-17 in the family that long will be extra awesome. And 700 hrs in it already, it will be like home with it back going. How long have you been flying? 700 hrs is really good… 👍

Hello. I’m 71 now. Been flying since 20. My dad was a marine pilot. He went to Embry-Riddle after his discharge for A+P school. Seems we always had an airplane in his home shop. He worked part time on many airplanes for friends or his own. I never flew commercially, just as a hobby but I enjoy working and flying on small older affordable aircraft. At this stage of life, lsa catagory is for me.

Congrats! Looking forward to seeing more. Imagine 4 folks in that plane with that 108/115HP Lycoming :) Also, check your upper tail wires where they attach to the vertical stabilizer. I think the back up lugs are not installed at the high degree bend to reduce the stress point? Hard to see in the video, maybe they are there? Clear Skies & Tailwinds!

I think I’ll wait until I have a Lycoming O-320 (which I’ll be building soon) before I’ll end up with 4 at once. Im sure it would do it light on fuel and a smaller group of 4, but not out of my place. Thanks for asking about the back up lugs. I’m not familiar with them and I’ll check! Do you or have you owned a Clipper? Sure seems so. 👍

No yet. It’s going to be a few months, May timeframe. Still rebuilding both wings. I’ll have an update in the next two weeks. However, the runway update will be this weekend. 👊

18:16 Kind of cool that there seems to be a KEEL on the bottom of plane. Is that found on other vintage Pipers, or is this unique to the CLIPPER? Makes me think of a flying boat.
@Blaircraft.Engines
@Blaircraft.Engines 4 месяца назад
It's wider than the cubs, so perhaps it's a short wing piper thing... However, there are wood stringers on all of the old pipers.

Show the gyrations you need to go through to get in and out of it. 😊 My PA-17 has both sticks inside. All kinds of twisting and turning involved.

@Blaircraft.Engines

It's just a horn sound, however it's not operational. I will be upgrading this during the wing/engine work the next few months.
