This is the story of the Pontiac Chieftain. The first generation Chieftain with inline 6 and inline 8 engines was produced 1949 to 1954. These cars are known for their great design and longevity.
As we know Oldsmobile put the V8 'Rocket' on the market in 1949. These hurt sales of Pontiac. It finally lead to offer V8 power by Pontiac also, just a couple of years later. - Nevertheless: People loved Pontiac for their distinct styling, class and dependability.
