I love the CRI&P! What a tragedy this wonderful railroad was so neglected, abused, forgotten and ruined. Thanks for uploading. The 1970's were the nadir of so many things!
3/4 of people are dead if they see this life omg ...what a shame america is now til then....a real shame.... beautiful video wish i was born in the 50's all railways are going far and few... another shame....
An old saying from the time period was, "the Rock Island Line is a mighty fine line." Unfortunately, by the late 70s Rock Island was anything but fine. A train would be lucky be lucky to get a few miles down the track without a derailment. By late 1980, Rock Island was no more. Parts of Rock Island live on, however. Southern Pacific (now Union Pacific) purchased the "Golden State Route" in 1978. The line runs from Kansas City to El Paso. In the years since, both Southern Pacific and later Union Pacific have poured millions into upgrades of the line
I don't know as much about Kansas City Southern as I do about the Southern Pacific or the Rock Island, unfortunately. I do know that they own the Texas-Mexican Railway and operate the Panama Canal Railway. Here is a good source of information: trn.trains.com/en/Railroad%20Reference/Railroad%20History/2006/06/Kansas%20City%20Southern%20merger%20family%20tree.aspx. Kansas City Southern railcars are seen quite often in Southern Ontario.
