Having grown up in the 50’s I find this video so fun! People had fewer things at that time than she has in her house. But seeing those things tugs at my heart.

We try and have as much fun as possible! You must love where you live to find happiness! Well at least that is our motto...and you are absolutely correct a home of the 50's would have had many elements of the past! But these are the elements we have collected and displayed!!!!

The lamps.. your collections are amazing. I collect vintage...but the cheaper kind...ie the cheap stuff from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Lmao..more thrift style than antique mall...what a difference that makes. Your stuff is so NICE! This house is perfect and you are so cute!

i have been to many a farm auction in the midwest where an old farmer has passed on and the kids are liquidating his farm equipment. usually its just farmers that show up to buy the farm equipment. the household items, usually mid century stuff, Pyrex, lamps, quils, etce..goes for literally nothing. eventually the auctioneer piles up boxes of the stuff until someone gives in and bids a dollar. ive thought about hauling trailer loads to the west coast...but anyways, you wont hardly find this stuff advertised by the auction company, usually just the farm equipment will be.

One of our best experiences happened about 10 years ago in this tiny town called Arma, Kansas! They had an Antique/Thrift store it was filled with Mid Century goods and super low prices! I remember walking.in and finding 3 Starburst Clocks just hanging on the wall for $10-$15 etc! Atomic Shadowbox for $15! Barkcloth for $5 a panel!!! It was madness....went back 2 years later and the shop/thrift store was gone! 😭 Another place where we found great stuff was Salina, Kansas....same situation but not as much variety but still incredible things!!!!

She really has some great pieces but honestly less is more. Wayyy to cluttered. I would be rotating pieces out rather than having it look like the 50s threw up all over. The process of researching cities that had large growth during the 50s is a great idea for finding thrift/antique stores thatt may have mcm items.

Although I wouldn't call it 1950's esque. Surely it has inputs, but the atomic idealization is completely false. Especially since its been around since the 1910s with that all too familiar bursting line shimmer star. When a vintage fan thinks of the "1950's" the first thing that comes to the mind for them is oh, the diner, the 1957 Chevrolet, the offputting blonde hairstyles that almost resembled carved wood in their sharp unnatural curvature or swirl, the chrome laced red obsession seating, and the overexcess of unnaturally bright saturated blues, pinks, and greens. This couldn't be more wrong to that decade of course that in itself was a change, I can't fathom how people can talk about an entire decade through one focal point. The real 1950's was purely glorious, elegant, and held a world that didn't need to be a dream since it was long in its process since the 1900s. When I think of the 1950's, I think about why we don't mention what came before it, I assure you a nuke did not blow away society in 1940 later to rebuild its self after years of neglect. I think of how much the 1950's reminds me of the 1930's and 1940's through a new light. I remember the soft frosted colors, and richly warmed homes with lavish satin wallpapers that never clashes somehow. The ingenious architecture from brick to wood wether it be a mezzanine brick stair ledge, or a 2 piece embezzled art deco carved cabinetry. I remember the vehicles, how they really were, not that rocket nonsense, but that of a plane, a ship, possibly a... train? People never think about that do they, how locomotives have such an effect on them, because last I checked...what plane or ship really has lights on it to guide forward and infront? I think about the colors I witnessed, god half of them I've never even seen aside from a french painting or a russian palace. The iridescent lustrous liquor that shimmered the vehicles, the ones with simply opaque yet somehow just as unbelievable colors only effortlessly highlighted by the vehicles formations and embellishments that no modern vehicle could even breathe near the thought of, from dark mint forest green, to a light pale red. Icecream, cold and delicious icecream is all I can think of when I think about the color choices. Even the 1937 Hudson known for its Chocálate iridescent and english coffee in 1933. What fun, what wonderful wonderful colors. I can't stand people who choose patina over the original pallet or hardly better yet, the hot rod neon color freaks from arbitrary green, to eye bleeding fire red.

Buying new things, new clothes and new gadgets, that's great and all; but why not go buy something old from an antique shop, thrift store or garage sale and make it look nice again? That's pretty much what our ancestors did all the time, they would sell their old stuff and give their younger relatives hand-me-downs.

Great tour. You can find so many things at estate sales as you said. My wife and I love all that 50's atomic era design. However we now have a house built in 1910. So the items we look for are older. We're hovering around the 1940's on most of the furniture. We wish we had several houses to decorate era-correct. I think the 50's house would be my favorite. BTW, you need an era correct car to park in the driveway. A '57 Mercury or a '59 Buick would do nicely. Keep up the good fight. Preserve the style for future generations to enjoy.

My house was built in 1860. I enjoy the beautiful character of my home, but I have an eclectic mix of things, mostly from the 1950sthrough the 70s. It’s what I remember at my grandparents summer house that was built in the 1700s. It was full of cast-off kitsch.

This is the perfect example of less is more. Mid-century was never this overwhelming. WAAAY too much. What kills mcm is the inability to know when to stop. Your space starts to look more like a cramped antique shop rather than a home. When my aunt lost her mansion she had to move into a duplex, which looked like this because she didn't want to get rid of all her goodies.
