Some of the coolest toys in the world belong to my grandpa, and I enjoy being able to play with them with him! This has been one of my favorite pieces of machinery since I was just knee high to a grasshopper. If you are unable to hear, we stared up the Gas pony motor first, released the clutch and fired up the main Diesel engine. This thing runs like a champ. Enjoy!

Had one when I first started in the construction industry, land clearing, great machine in those days, they’ll still do a job , them old 8’s never die.

you cheated . you have to hand crank the pony motor, then start turning over the motor until the oil psi and fuel psi comes up then trough the compression over

I like the home made high speed aerodynamic Nascar style roll cage. Sweet old machine. It's amazing these old things still run! Made back in the day when the air was clean and sex was dirty.

Boy that was a fast startup, When I was in Antarctica it would take me 3/4 to an hour to start the LGP stretch D8's there. But then the temp was -20 to -30 degrees. We had to crank the diesel engine till the temp gauge needle came off the pin and then feed fuel to it. It would fire up every time. The pony motors did not like starting at those temps tho. That was half the battle.

Let’s be honest here, you had already warmed it up. The procedure for starting that cat is never that simple. And it doesn’t take two people. What happened to the compression release? Or the throttle? You can’t just simplify things for a video.

Don't be a jackass. Yes it was previously started. Yes it was summertime. Yes it is easier with two people because the Pony motor throttle does not hold itself open. Don't troll people.

Huntermaddox_24 I’m not trolling. I did this for years. Don’t oversimplify this process. If you are attempting to educate people on these older pieces of equipment, tell the story.

The widower is very correct I grew up on these tractors Car called it the starting procedure for a reason. You wanted the main engine to turn over until not only was intake warm but you had full fuel pressure and most importantly full oil pressure for one full minute. When this machine was made there was no multi viscosity Oil. This was usually 40 weight and it was thick on a warm day and could result in bearings starting dry, not to mention the transmission Chief Davis
