The big day is finally here! We're polishing the patina of the 1951 Ford F1, a true Texas farm truck that has aged authentically.
Time to clean the oxidized paint and then apply a mixture of boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits. The whole process took about three hours, with a couple of helpers for the last bit.
I can't believe how well it turned out!

For the record, it took about 80 minutes and 16 Brillo pads for me to clean the exterior myself. And then about another hour for me and my two boys to apply the linseed oil mixture. All the other videos I've seen say you don't need much but we found the patina really soaked up the oil, especially on the hood, roof and doors, so I probably put on a heavier coat than most. It took about 2.5 days to completely dry.

When we first did this on Edna it revealed a lot of the original green paint on the hood that we didn't know was there.

Beautiful Truck Christopher! Really turned out nice! That is pretty much the perfect condition to do what you did with it, and it warms the heart to see the young ones digging in to help. I would much rather see this done to the truck than you chopping it up and hot rodding it. So hard to find them in this condition and there are still some of us left that appreciate you keeping it this way. I have a 51 F1 as well that is a mostly original driver quality truck. Mine has shiny black paint on it, but it has its fair share of dings and scratches that I feel give the truck some character, and that is the way I am going to keep it for a while. I too drive the hell out of it and i really dont want to worry about messing up a beautiful paint job.

Thanks Lumpster! I've learned to accept that there are all sorts of old vehicle hobbyists out there and that they fall into different camps. I'm firmly on the "drive it" side of things. I understand some cars are so rare and valuable that you really can't have them on the road, but I a) can't afford those cars, b) don't want the hassle of worrying about them even if I could. I'm the same on hot-rodding/restomods of these trucks. I think they look fantastic with their original look and stance. But others like that lowrider look, and God bless. I spent two years looking for my truck (and saving $$) because I wanted as original one as I could find. Other than the four-speed on the floor (which I'm grateful for) my F1 is pretty much the same as it rolled off the factory line, plus 72 years of authentic aging. Keep on trucking!
