I love how this horn's tuning sounds exactly like that of an RS-5T (but with that M-series sound) when given only partial air pressure, and slides into that M-5 chord when given full air pressure.
*FAINTS* I cannot describe how amazing this horn is!!! My god, I WILL look into purchasing a horn like this, this is a spectacular sounding horn. Thank you for this great video! Even the diesel looked great too!
I shall have this horn on my car...along with a K5HLL!! Ahhh, this is a sound I would love to hear in heaven....along with a mile long HO scale layout!! :D
You got that right! The echoes in the hills seem to bring the horn to life. I've got several videos posted that were recorded on Padre Island, TX. The horns sound ok, but are very bland without the echoes. The constant wind out on the coast doesn't help the recordings much either.
Everyone has their own opinion as to which one is best. All the serious competitors sound great. Any older horns sound better than the latest ones to me honestly - JP
With the wear it had inside I'm sure it faithfully served the railroad for quite a while before being retired. Sometime after being retired from service it ended up in a barn where it sat for many years. Thanks for the comment!
@sgtfhrn This horn is one of the BEST sounding horns I'v ever heard! I almost passed out behind the computer! I just hope I can get my hand on this particular model. hopefully someone out there has one for sale.
@dgblairjr42 I'm not positive what RR it came from, but it appears to have an ACL inspired paint scheme. Not sure if it was painted that way by the RR or if it was done by a collector as it was found in a barn in FL where it had been sitting for many years. Your guess is as good as mine. It actually amazes me just how liberal the Americans are with the whistle. Here in Australia, as a new engine man I was taught to use the horn sparingly.
