People who complain about hearing you say “I don’t know.” Probably don’t know themselves but want to appear superior in their own eyes. You’re doing a good job, would love to have tools like that to work with!
I’m enjoying watching your videos. I’m 68 and used to run backhoe, excavator and skid steer. My dad was in soil conservation and would really have enjoyed these. Keep on sharing God’s word!

The pond is really taking shape Tim. You're doing a good job especially for not being a pro excavator. Don't let the ones who complain about "You must not know much because you say I don't know" because we all don't know a lot more than we do know.

Nice to see the progress, your thoughts, and rebuttals. You are a thorough person. I never knew there was so much to digging a pond. Our old pond has trouble holding water all year. I think part of the reason is there are so many large trees growing around it now. Very vew hills here in South Louisiana, so ponds are truly big holes in the ground as opposed to dents in the side of a hill. Glad for y'all!
Not only is believing that someone should "know it all" arrogant, it can be deadly. We as a society used to believe pilots and physicians should be able to just remember all the things they are supposed to know. After a lot of people died because of that thought process we now have concepts like checklists, crew resource management and the ability so research vast amounts of information digitally.
Tim, you are 100% right about people’s arrogance. There’s nothing wrong with not knowing all the answers but you are asking people with more experience than you. In my opinion any one should stay away from any person that has all the answers. You're absolutely correct Tim. I've never been afraid to say I don"t know. We never stop learning; therefore, everyday is a school day. Just keep doing what you're doing, and the pond appears to be coming along great!
I wouldn’t be concerned about the pond leaking, it’s main use from watching the start of this project is to hold water during wet spells and reduce surface flooding. I’d be aiming to keep it half full for extra capacity. It doesn’t hurt for it to look good, it’s shaping up nice. As for fish, unless you’re really into freshwater fishing and spending a lot of time maintaining the water, , liming and general pond health, it wouldn’t be worth it for me. But everyone is different. It’s your pond, you do whatever you want it to do/be I wouldn’t listen to people complaining about you not being 100% sure on things, no one knows straight away, it’s a pond, not a bridge carrying 1000’s of people every minute. Tim, that is a modified deuce, as you noted. I drove a 10 wheel deuce when I got to Germany in 1989, the year the Berlin Wall came down. We had both 5 ton and 2.5 ton tactical vehicles in the unit I served. The 5 ton trucks had both 10 and 6 wheel versions. I never saw a 6 wheel version of a 2.5 ton truck. I pretty sure they were not produced in 1952. That is a fine looking truck. I like the crane behind the cab. I never saw one of them. My unit had a tactical wrecker that we could use as a crane. Tim, I'm sure there is an expert for your area and I highly doubt it is someone making negative commits on RU-vid. While I am no expert on digging ponds I have dug two in flat land in Oklahoma and they both hold water. I think you're doing a great job.
Tim, when the hydraulic pressure from your pond pushes down on the clay liner, it squeezes groundwater out, and creates a spring. That would be a good thing, it means a constant supply of fresh clean water, your water would be absurdly clear. However, you usually need a slight hill or something to collect that water from, which is why it works so well for dirt perfect. They already have hillside runoff in the groundwater table, and the hydraulic pressure from the pond inevitably creates a spring. Look into man made springs, it’s not impossible, but I think you’re gonna have to encourage it quite a bit on that flat land there.
It's looking great Tim. I would not even begin to know how to start a project like this. The task is learning together which can be exciting, filled with twists and turns and frustrating all at the same time, but in the end you'll have what you want. Stay the course!
That's an amazing rig! I had a '52 Studebaker M35 winch truck in totally stock form. It was so much fun to drive even with no power steering! I finally had to pass it on to another collector, it was just too much work for maintenance. Sure miss that exhaust sound and the whistle of the turbo!

Nothing wrong with answering "I Don't Know." I think it's just showing honesty. I use that for an answer more than I'd like to truthfully. Always enjoy checking out Studebakers at car shows just from the historical perspective.
@TTWT if memory serves me correctly. That particular military vehicle should have the same battle mode that the model had with the Hercules engine in it. Which means if it's out of fuel you could engage the starter to power the engine and literally Drive in about 10 miles to get out of a battle.
I would say take the smallest bucket for the trackhoe and pound the blue clay back into place in the holes . It's been a long time since i drove a truck like that duece and a half!
If your worried about the spring head cover it with clay and I would use Pond Seal that you throw it across the water if you have any leads it will seal them up. Stoney Ridge Farm had a Episode about sealing a pond from leaks.
Look at all you've learned by jumping in, not knowing everything. I think that's how I learn is just by doing. Yeah, mistakes will be made, but that's ok. Thank you for sharing.

Tim I live near Bama bass as you mentioned. He's spent quite a bit of money on his pond. And it looks really like any of us would love to have in our yards. Do what you want a d ask people that know more than you questions. You'll be fine..find a local fish supplier they can offer information for you or people in your state may offer free info as many states offer it..
We got a ~2 acre pond. Bass like shallow water...its where they eat and you catch them, but they need deep water during winter (our deep point at the dam is 30 ft). I'd put those shelves on the sides though for safety...it will save a child or young adult from drowning and will give you 'fishing spots.' Looking at what you're doing showing the whole pond, I think you got it under control. Looks similar or even better than what it was like when our pond got dug. Overflow is kinda over emphasized IMO... it's also a safety thing to prevent dam failure, but our pond even at the worst conditions was never needed. We got a PVC pipe drain in the middle of the dam...the outlet goes on the other bottom end of dam...this has been adequate to ensure water doesn't exceed the dam and the spillways never been used.
Looking back on this project you will be able to see that any good plan includes learning and revisions as needed. Great looking now but will soon be a prime fishing hole!

The thing about your videos are great production values knowing what makes an interesting story which includes editing and audio to tell the story. Bouns points for equipment which makes noise, has nobs to turn, and is shiny...clay will grow grass with organic amendments
In the mid 90s in New zealand the contractors that were hired to do a poo pound on a dairy farm I worked on thay used clay to line it and I think thay put some kind of solution on the clay to make it more watertight doing a great looks good Tim
You have a spring in the pond is what you will find in most ponds in Iowa as long as someone doesn't mess up the water table like close a well improperly one pond that we had serval years ago had serval and had the least amount of algae growth
I really think you need to compact that clay. in big open areas rent a sheeps foot roller. In your keyway, using a roller for your mini (like Let's Dig 18).
The Pond is really looking good and the seeing the Deuce was neat too. I think that you have a big rock pile back by your woods. You could build several rock piles around the shallow sides and that would be good structure but then I don't know. Does your drone have an altimeter in it? I have seen others use a drone at the surface and fly down into the hole to get a true depth. Great work Tim and Christy.

The thinking is this: Once the pond is full, the "hydraulic pressure" created by the weight of the pond water will push the OTHER DIRECTION, forcing water back into the ground. In other words, causing the pond to leak.
Our family and friends went to Bendix Woods Park New Carlisle Indiana quite often when I was a child. I just found a post dated March 8, 2018 saying and showing that the trees spelling STUDEBAKER can still be seen from the air!!! It is likely they are still there after 85 years!!
Put a lot of miles on them older army truck's not so much on the duce and a half but the larger 5 tons toeing a 155 howitzer 😅. Pond is looking good old boy.
Take a post hole put hedge,Osage orange,tree limbs in hole with a bag of cement.youcan use mulberry both are very hard and will last many years under water.verticul structure is best
Speaking from retention pond experience, not pond, a slick bottom would seal the pond bottom better. Once you've established a solid bank line of blue clay, I'd suggest pulling a shallow slope all the way around. It could be regular sandy clay to help with draining( I THINK, NOT SURE) but some sort of shallow ring to help catch people if they slip. As many views as a We Sunk Johnny In The Lake video would get, you'd get triple the comments of I told you so. 😂
Great video! Loved the old truck and 5 series part of the video. The old military truck is very cool old truck. I can relate to grabbing on to stuff with other equipment and tearing stuff up. Had a set of pallet forks in my way the other day. Was in one of my 5Rs and happened to have my big grapple on the front. Thought I could just pick it up and move the forks out of the way. Well, let’s just say I apparently didn’t didn’t know my grapple strength. Fork frame is no longer viable as a fork frame. Lol.
