1954? Hille Ranger Camper, VERY RARE vintage pop-up camper!

With only about 200 of these ever made it is a miracle any of them survived! It is believed that approximately 40-ish remain which says a lot considering that is almost 1/4 of all of them produced! This trailer is likely a 1954 or early 1955 due to the spears being present on the wheel wells. These are considered the first of the "modern pop-up" campers!!! We are excited to get this one started! #junkinthistruck, #rangercamper, #vintagecamper

Marcie, you are the perfect caretaker of this piece of history! The gentleman that sold it to you new what he was doing. And whoever started the restoration really did a good job taking it apart. Good Luck with his restoration and I can’t wait for it to be finished.

Dear Misses Supermarci. 👍👌👏 Congrats, congrats, congrats! What a fantastic pop up camper trailer. I'm soooo glad to hear how excited the little child inside the grown up woman got. It's immensely important to feed our inner child and keep it alive. 2) Although you and me definitely know, that you don't need any more projects than you already have, now you simply need very necessarily a fitting tow vehicle (with the same rear lights)! Usually it would be a 1954 Ford customline sedan or, even better, the 4dr or 2dr station wagon! BUT because you are definitely a Volkswagen girl, there is also one option (unfortunately kind of rare I have to admit): The VW Karmann Ghia type 34! It was called the big Karmann Ghia in Germany and is a smaller copy of the Chevy Corvair that Nader hated so much. Those taillights look similar enough, don't you think so!? By the way: It's kind of funny but even BMW had cars with similar taillights, for instance the famous BMW 2002 (first series). 3) Maaan, I can hardly wait to see you working on this rare Ranger camper. You did such an amazing and extremely impressive job on the last pop up camper trailer restoration. Especially all the sewing was nearly unbeliiiiievably fantastic. Please kindly allow me to suggest that you build a kind of tow tongue adapter to lengthen it a bit. Only for the purpose that the trailer handles better/easier in tight turns respectively while shunting (without getting damaged). By the way: While watching the last pictures of the front, my inner child saw a cheeky grin (the shapes of the 2 defective fibre glass spots), a big nose (water tank) and two eyes (window). So this pop up would definitely be a worthy member in the "Cars movie club"! 😁 ;-) Please check it out for yourself. Thanks in advance. 4) I'm really, really glad that you are back and "somehow" pretty healthy (what happened to your left arm?). I definitely missed you very much! Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards, luck and health to all of you.

This is so gorgeous!!! I love vintage! I'm glad you got it. Excited to see what you do with it. I have a 1977 StarCraft pop-up camper that I want to turn into a hard side to live in full-time. I don't know what to do with the roof. Just spray paint it and replace just the wood on the inside is what I'm thinking. I'm researching vintage campers now to see what other people have done. ❤️
@marcijunebug
@marcijunebug Год назад
Thank you! We hope to dig in full time on it in the next week or two! You might consider marine grade plywood on the roof, as it won't rot, it is heavier but you will never replace it again! Or aluminum, which would be lighter maybe but more $$$. good luck!

very similar, actually the stove we ended up using in this camper CAME out of my vintage sailboat because it would have had one nearly identical. In the few pictures we've seen of these campers the stove was a "homestrand mariner" style stove and in two magazines that is EXACTLY the stove that was in them so took the one out of my boat and moved it to the camper!

Hi Marci, Great project, I know you'll finish it off just right. Bit of a concern about how easy it is to damage while reversing. If it were me Id look at adding something to extend it that can be taken off when you can get onsite. I'm sure you wont but that's what makes life interesting. Tallyho.
@marcijunebug
@marcijunebug Год назад
It's certainly a project but looking forward to tackling it! As long as I own it the backing won't be a problem but I can certainly see how it happened! I thought of doing a tongue extension like they do on fixed keel sailboat trailers! We shall see...first just have to get the severely damaged wood replaced, then will go from there!
