1955 - 1961 Borgward Isabella Special 

Lived in Balmain a suburb of Sydney where the minister of the Balmain Methodist Mission had a 1961 Isabella sedan. I had never heard of Borgward and was immensely impressed by the ride and handling especially on long trips this was in 1965. It was well made, reliable and stately! Guess it was too much competition for the other German car companies to let it survive. It wasn’t fast or powerful it was safe and comfortable. Loved riding and driving the car. Lastly the workmanship was truly German almost flawless even by modern standards.

They hadfinancial problems due to cost of sorting out gearbox on a smaller car. BMW campaigned to stop a loan to tide them over, after BMW had been bailed out financially themselves. It removed their competitor.
