Greenjuiceman does show how much simpler the LD1 is to get ready for starting where as the D type needs much more care and attention. Clear to see why the diesels eventually left the petrol engines behind
Very nice indeed, excellent video and well edited. Two very well sorted engines! Was it national Lister day today....? we should make it a national holiday.
Why has the LD1 got a ferguson te20 early type dipstick 1947-1953, why is the d type two different colours with new type petrol cap, magneto, but with old type rocker cover, governor oiler, and only one bolt holding the rocker shaft indicating a later model with a newer type mixture control wheel with rectangular cut out. why is the spec plate(inspection cover) a different colour none the less they do run nicely.
Both engines have spent there working life on farms, so I don't no much about there history. But I would guess that the ld1 lost its original at some time and the owner had that at hand to replace it. I've checked it, fits the engine perfectly giving the exact right amount of oil in the engine when full... The d type is obviously a combination of 3 different engines. Again no history. But the bottom end including flywheel is from 1943, the spec plate, tank and carb are from a different engine dated to 1945 and sold to ransomes. And finally the head is again another engine. I would assume again done on a farm to keep it going... It runs really well. I could paint it. But then what little history it can show would be gone
+MO3MINI thanks for the reply, i also have a d type from 1950 running a h1 pump and a 1955 ferguson ted20 with the same dipstick as your ld1. keep up the good videos they are very interesting to watch.
