Visiting my first AOMCI meet in Constantine, MI I wanted to show off the old Duracraft. of course, as soon as I gave it throttle, the motor bogged and died. I had to be towed back to the launch. let's see if we can figure out why it died.

That 56 is in amazing shape, that’s crazy with seeds.. do you own wrenches? Gentle with that old girl man, I cringed a lot watching this as it’s scraped, scratched, dropped, stripped. It is nice to see videos on this motor all tool remarks aside, I can only dream of having such a great shape motor hope it stays that way.

The round part with vacuum line and wire that goes up to one of the coils is the vacuum cut-out switch.. you mentioned couple times you weren’t sure what it was.

People say the 50's 'Rudes are the same under the cowl..I'm glad my carb on my 58 isn't like that!

They are very similar. It depends on the horsepower. Mine wasn't bad at all. It just has an extra bracket for the electric choke.

Oh that hurts watching just about every wrong tool and procedure. Next time get some of the correct tools and a service manual. I have worked on so many correcting what "mechanics" had "fixed". Also a good way to burn up the starter. It's great you are working on it but PLEASE seek knowledgeable guidance and practices.

I'll admit to using incorrect tools because I was lazy and frustrated from it leaving me stranded at the meet the day before. However, what procedures were incorrect? I worked on these engines as an apprentice under the guidance of omc certified mechanics. What procedures and practices have I omitted?

It’s really a shame that you don’t have the proper tools to do the job things would go a whole lot smoother

I have the proper tools. Not sure why this is such an issue with everyone. I was in a hurry to figure out why this motor died on me. I'm going to repaint the entire motor sone day so I am not concerned about scratches.
