My mother’s uncle had a Nash rambler Garage. So every time we were at my grandmothers, we would go to the garage and all the new cars. We had a 52 Nash statesman that went everywhere and anywhere. I love that old car.

What a sharp Rambler! 50s cars are so much more stylish than today's Japanoid boxes.

As a kid in the '50's I always thought Nashes, Hudsons and Studs un-cool but I always kinda liked their quirky styling, esp. the Ramblers...this one is really nice, if it was a '57 Rebel, it would be extremely collectible. I grew up in Randolph not far from Abington

My very first street legal car was a 1957 Rambler V8 with dual glasspack mufflers. It looked like this one except that mine was a rust bucket. But it was all mine! Circa 1965.

John, love your content, presentation and style. The historical tidbits add to the quality of your vlogs. I'm jealous that I can't realistically buy/own one of the beauties you offer. I respect your focus on affordable, drivable, classic cars. And, a 4 door. Be still my beating heart.

This color combo looks great on this car. It seems absurd that someone would say this car is “...the ugliest car I haver ever seen”. I guess taste is mostly subjective. I see this car as a stylish and modern offering in 1956, definitely a stand out.

It is absolutely beautiful. I own a 57 super. I also owned a 59 custom crosscountry and it was the most reliable car I ever owned. I grew up in Cuba and these were very common over there. Thank you for the video. It brought back many memories

Nash earned sports car racing respect with Nash Healey. This 56 is showing the Nash Healey grille design with the headlights nestled in the grille... also, nearly same engine as Nash Healey sports car...

did folks actually race the Nash Healey's? Was it by class, displacement or what category did they race in?

This is a clean car. And yes, this was the first year of the OHV 6 cylinder. There is a rare model you might not know about: a 56 Rebel introduced after March 1956. They built a few with the new V8. It's very rare, and you might not be able to find one if there is one surviving. This car came into California likely in the mid 80s or later, as it's not retrofitted with a PCV Valve to reduce smog emissions. The seat belts are mandatory in California on all vehicles per the seatbelt law for 1986. I had to retrofit my dad's 59 Ford F100 pickup in late 1985 to make sure it complied with the deadline to have belts.

Yes, I am aware of the Rebel model. Said to be America's first 'muscle car'. Super rare then and even more so now. I missed out on one last year. Someone beat me to it by 10 minutes...
@michaelbenardo5695
@michaelbenardo5695 Год назад
It was never mandatory to retrofit a pre 68 car with seat belts. Not here in California.

There was a 57 Rebel with a solid lifter version of the Nash 327, but I have never heard of a 56 version of that performance car.
@maxheadroom8857
@maxheadroom8857 Год назад
@@michaelbenardo5695 actually, it is mandatory as of late 1985 for the Mandatory Seat Belt law for 1986. It's not mandatory to retrofit the vehicles with shoulder belts, however. I had to finish installing rear seat belts in my 62 Rambler at the time in late 1985 while I retrofitted my dad's 59 Ford F100 with belts. Auto parts stores were having a hard time keeping up with the rush for seat belts at the end of 1985. My brother and I had a hard time getting matching seat belts for the Ford pickup truck - I was trying to get 3 sets of blue colored seat belts for the truck. At the same time, I was searching for brown colored seat belts for my back seat of my 62 Rambler to match the front seat belts. My brother and I had to go to several auto parts stores to find matching color belts in stock. It took over a month to match the belts and meet the deadline.

@@michaelbenardo5695 There were very few 56 Rambler Rebels produced when the AMC V8 came out in March 1956. I heard about them when I was a member of the AMC Rambler Club back in the 1990s. The ones produced in 1956 had the smaller 250 V8 heads on them. The mid year V8s primarily went into the Nash and Hudson cars to stop the demand for the Packard V8/Ultramatic Transmission package that was causing AMC to bleed cash. I have seen a 56 Hudson Hornet with the 327 AMC V8 before. This particular Hudson Hornet had a 3 speed stick shift with the 327 V8, something you couldn't get with a Packard V8 equipped Hudson or Nash. I spoke with the car's owner when I saw it parked at a shopping center.

Nash cars were available with Packard V8's well before the 327 appeared

The 1957 V8 was actually the old Packard V8. The first new AMC V8 wasn't until 1965.
@boggy7665
@boggy7665 3 месяца назад
No... the Packard V8 was only used for a short while, less than a year maybe. The 2nd gen V8 was introduced late '66 maybe but there was a 1st-gen all-AMC V8 before that.
