What a beautiful truck! That 1957 Chevy 3100 step side pickup truck is in pristine condition. The engine bay is immaculate with its Thriftmaster 6-cylinder engine that sounds smooth and healthy. I love the way it sounds whenever he'd wind it out through the gears with that sweet sounding moan of that 3-speed Saginaw transmission! You may call it "My Car Story", but a pickup truck every so often is a true delight to see. You need to feature more of them! Good job Lou!
When I was 10yo, my family drove down to a suburb of Oakland, Cal. to visit my dad's brother--an uncle we rarely would see, as we lived in Seattle. My uncle Jim was a self-made, almost millionaire, and he had just bought a 57 Chev truck, nearly identical to this one. My uncle was so proud of his new truck, that he even wanted to impress me! We cruised down a local 4 lane highway, and he floored that truck, for a few seconds--It was, just like this truck, quite noisy, but also very quick! We got up to around 90mph...I never forgot that experience!
Absolutely beautiful truck...love that side mounted spare. But the real star here is the engine...the famous "Stove bolt Six". The stove bolt is an engineering masterpiece. The roots of this engine go all the way back to 1929...they got it right from the beginning, and it just got better with time. Smooth, quiet, torque to spare and reliable as the sunrise...a hundred years from now, the stove bolts will still be running!
Thanks for showing this beauty, 50's trucks are something else. And I'm really glad it's a '57 Chevy truck because I have a '56 Chevy truck I'm restoring to original and there are almost no videos of a truly stock 55-59 Chevy truck on RU-vid, so this is a treat, and good motivation.
I had one of those with the 265 V-8 and wrap around rear window. There is very little room in the cab because the gas tank is behind the seat. Chevy did not do a very good job on the construction of the doors. They were a poor fit and always leaked air, making it noisy even when the windows were closed. But it was a good old truck.
I'm not much of a truck guy, but this was a great video. I've been in a few old trucks in my day, and most of those rides were not memorable. In those days, these were working trucks. They had dings and dents and rode so dog-gone rough. I remember feeling every single bump and dip in the road. Even bounched my head once to the top of the trucks. It was a 1960 Ford, I believe. It's so nice to see one in such great condition, that sounds good and that you probably don't have to worry about getting from point A to point B. In The ones I've been in, it seemed iffy if we were ever going to make it to our destination. I've never, ever driven a truck. I've driven a 1967 Ford Ranchero, but never a truck. Great detail as always, Thanks for this video. Thumbs up from ME as always! I hope all who view this video will give it a thumbs up and subscribe.
"Just amazing" - There is no denying Lou's statement - What a head-turner in white - a Chevy truck, loving those red accents, and away she goes. . . :>/
Imagine that! You can actually see the ground under the hood! I had a '61 Chevy in college in the seventies with this engine and it was such a dream to maintain with all that room. A friend had a '58 Apache and it was cool riding so high up with that step up inside the door.
Hi LoveIsAll, You're right you can see ground when you open the hood :-) Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car & the Friend with the 58 Apache too :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
HI Phil, Happy to read you appreciate this pickup :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing and I believe you're going to see many more cars on this Channel you'll enjoy. Hope you Subscribe, and hit the "bell" so you can see all the cars when they are uploaded on this RU-vid Channel, Lou
Amazing truck. Love the color combination of white and red. The interior is surprisingly luxurious for the 50's. I was amazed there was color carpeting (at best I would have thought it would have been black or at worst rubber). Truly a time capsule of beauty!
Thanks, YES interestingly most of our Farm , GOVERNMENT trucks, etc: were just rubber mats at best, etc.Though, by late 1960-70s lotof Comfort Options on “Trucks”…….
It would have been rubber floor mats originally. Even the '55 Cameo Carrier had rubber floor mats, though they were color keyed as opposed to just black. I think the first truck with carpets was actually Dodge in '63 with the hardly known Custom Sport Special. Followed by Ford in '65 with the Ranger, and I think Chevy didn't have it until 1967-72 generation.
My favorite Pick Up Trucks were from the 50's & 60's. Such personality. The 3 on a Tree was great too. So easy to shift. I was taught to use two fingers. If you could easily use two fingers then the transmission was In Sync.
The era of putting design before safety. Notice that the gas tank was located right behind the passenger area!...Those trucks would frequently catch on fire, if hit in that area of the vehicle.
Hi Mr. Fruity Pebbles, Make sure you watch the commercials (or at least the ones you can) to completion as that's how I get paid so I can keep doing what I'm doing and be able to share with you :-) Lou
Like many of the rest, nothing wrong with a truck! 1957 - a great year for America and American cars (imho). When I was in drivers ed (1969), may of the simulators had the shifter on the wheel. I think I just aged myself. LOL! Keep up the great work Lou!
Not sure how I missed this one. I love old trucks. The older the better ! Wish I could figure out how to access my photos on my phone while posting this .. I'd send you a picture of the 37 Chevrolet pickup we finished last year ! Thanks again Lou !
¡Saludos!
I love it , same age as me & ill assure you in better shape. Love the way he kept it mostly factory w/ a splash of red & some hubcaps that look like they're off a 57Impala!
Great film, Mr. Lou. Nothing wrong with a Pick-up on “My Car Story”. I didn’t hear any comment about the Owner’s other ‘57 Chevies, aside that he has them. Would you be able to feature one or all the other cars?
Hi Donald, Happy to read you enjoy this pickup on the car Channel :-) The other 1957's are on the Channel and coming to the Channel. Here is one for you to enjoy, Lou ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p_kDIBsVxzs.html
Lou, Thank you for a great truck video. Let's get some more trucks on your channel from time to time. Say 1935 to 1968 would be great. Ford, Chevy and Dodge etc... Thanks Again
Mike, Well since it's "My Car Story" probably won't be seeing to many.....however.....if you type into RU-vid search "My Car Story with Lou Pickup" or "My Car Story with Lou truck" you might see a few that slipped in :-) Lou
What a beautiful truck in 57 Chevrolet had them all beat as far as the looks of the models I have to say I'm jealous cuz of 57 is not mine thank you Lou for bringing a 57 Chevrolet truck and he definitely has a winter here
@@loucostabile You're welcome. I had the exact same model with side-mount spare tire, but in a 1958 year-model.....first year of the quad headlights and intro to the "Apache" name. '59 was almost identical (and last year of the "Task Force" generation of Chev trucks.
Years ago my uncle told me that type of hood came on the 56 model Years I know that's same kind I used to have mine was a gmc it came with the grany 4 speed in it wow it was a powerful 6 cylinder in it I remember I pulled a hay wagon with it
Always been a fan of the tri five Chevys and the trucks as well. If I could have an old truck it would be one like this. Wonder what kind of gears are in the rear-end? Great video as always Lou.
Hi PlymouthDuster225, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this truck :-) Not sure what gears in the rear end. Hoping a Viewer with knowledge can share. Appreciate the kind words on this video, Lou
There's plenty of these as hot rods.. too many, to the point where a stock truck like this is far more rare and special these days. And a lot of people, myself included, are tired of always seeing these 55-59 Chevy trucks always hot rodded, so seeing a stock truck is a very big deal.
Hi Adam, Happy to read you appreciate this truck :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing and I believe you're going to see many more cars on this Channel you'll enjoy. Hope you Subscribe, and hit the "bell" so you can see all the cars when they are uploaded on this RU-vid Channel, Lou
Hi Robert, If I see a REALLY GOOD ONE, you will too. Also if you type into RU-vid search "My Car Story with Lou Truck" or "My Car Story with Lou Pickup" you'll see a few more have snuck onto the Channel :-) Lou
Thanks, Lou & JOHN… great vehicle….( admittedly, I am ALSO extremely partial to “GMC & Studebaker “pick ups) ::particularly earlier “ deluxe, optioned out, Dealer built”… Yep, grew up with these pickups ……unfortunately, State GAME -PRESERVE , Government, & Farm use beat them up a lot…….

Chevy was making the best trucks in the Universe then and now. For some reason, Ford overtook them in the late seventies with the F150. But the Silverado is every bit as good as the F150, and the 2500 super duty Chevy double wheel is probably the best heavy duty on the road, and the GMC Sierra is right up there with the 1500 and the 2500.
