Enjoying these truck vlogs as well, Brian! I have an old ‘65 Mustang that I’ve owned for years and still have a lot of work to do on it. Old classics are definitely a love of mine! Keep up the great work!
Brian you can pick up welding. I'm a cabinet maker. Several years back I started restoring a 69 cougar xr7. But it needed lots of welding to repair it and add parts to. I could not afford to pay a welder to do all the repairs so I put my mind to learning and bought a Lincoln welder. I took some classes. Got certified and now I can do all the welding I need. So if a cabinet maker with absolutely zero knowledge on wielding can do it I know you can do it too!!!! By the way I love your boots and your channel.
Your bro has got them skills! I got a 83 Chevy S-10 in my garage, thankfully it doesn't need the work you're doing to your truck since I'm keeping it stock. I just need to get the bed pulled a bit and then paint it. BORED out 2.8 V6, everything else is stock. I would say it's 80% original, since the OG engine had to be replaced.
Your truck looks also e when its lowered to like a 4&6 drop so 2in drop spindles will be needed an the rear I think you can take 2 leafs out of each side with a 4in block,..✌😎
Good to see you making progress on the truck. The rivets are difficult to remove since when they are driven in, the shank expands to fill the hole. Makes a very tight, rigid fit since there is no slop like when bolts are used. That front end kit sure makes the job easier. I swapped the front end, engine and trans from a 1977 Plymouth Fury into a '57 Ford pickup. I modified the Ford frame to have 4 pads to accept the Plymouth K member usinghte original bolts. Made a rear trans mount with sockets for the torsion bars. Took out the overload springs in the rear and it had a nice stance.
Can’t wait to keep seeing progress on your truck I know it’s going to turn out great with your eye for perfection if it turns out like a pair of your boots it’s going to be an awesome truck thank you for sharing your truck build with us
Be sure to think ahead about the fuel system. You need to locate a fuel cell somewhere in the back and get that tank out of the cab. That is a must do. I have a 69 short bed step side that I remade some years back. I went from the straight 6, 3 speed to a 4 bolt main 350 with a Muncie 4 speed from a Corvette. It runs out nice.
Glad to see the work in progress videos. This gets me motivated, I have a 68 CamaroRS I need to start working on, it's been sitting for over 10yrs. Keep up the good work.
You can weld! Ask your friend for some scrap steel and a quick how-to. RU-vid helped me learn. I bought a TIG and just jumped in. MIG is easier. You can do it! 😁
Welding. My father was a welder by trade, now retired. It seemed like alchemy to me! You gotta know the difference between all kinds of steels, what kind of weld is best for what kind of application, how much amperage to push for what kind of wire you use... and so on...
Eh, what’s all that “I dunno” and “maybe I can...”. Nip all that. No one is born knowing how to weld, do body work or make boots. Take it lite. Stand that up and make it happen.
Brian, look up Rick Maylender. His RU-vid channel is Classic Truck Rescue. He’s up in Oregon, and specializes in 1955-1959 Chevy and GMC trucks. He might be able to help with parts.
I like restoration project I do quite a few of them. Restored my house, old sewing machines Etc. Not nice to ask a person what year they were born, it doesn't matter especially on RU-vid.
Brian, is that a Squarebody in the background? Love the video on the progress of your truck. That was my dream truck in my teen years. Never got one 😞, maybe one day. Enjoy your build and thanks for sharing!
Brian I’ll get you to become a master welder if you trade me for a pair of boots! Brown RC Underdogs with the Vibram wedge sole. As a matter of fact any pair RC boots! As a matter of fact again it would be my pleasure to show you no matter what!
