Pontiacs are so often overlooked, but they were great looking and great performers too. I believe 1957 was the first year without having the "silver streaks" on the hood. This one you shared is a beauty.

Yes they are.. I believe your correct on the chrome strips on the hood.. I never cared for those on my 54 chieftain, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!

I won several bets with high school classmates who insisted that 1958 was the first year of the Pontiac Bonneville. Nope. The 57 Bonneville was the ONLY way to get that fuel injection option. And bear in mind that when General Motors sold GMC pickups with a V8 they didn't use that puny Chevy motor-they used Pontiac V8s.

Absolutely agree with you. In GM’s lineup started out with Chevrolet then Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Buick then the top of the line Cadillac. In my opinion the 1957 Pontiac Bonneville convertible with fuel injection,contential kit and skirts was one of the best looking cars of the 1950’s.

That significant horsepower increase over the Chevys, Fords and others is why the 1957 Pontiac was tested as the fastest in acceleration for 1957 with the exception being the Chrysler with the second generation hemi at 392 cubic inch-and that was in the acceleration for the "flying mile". The reason I NEVER lost a race in my old man's 57 Chieftain? The standard Hydramatic transmissin was a four speed...the Chevy Powerglide was a two speed.
@MOTORHEADMISFITS-zk9su
@MOTORHEADMISFITS-zk9su Год назад
Yes it was definitely a fast car for its day.. I believe a doctor with a stock 57 pontiac did the flying mile with an unofficial speed of 141ish mph but it was a one way run and at that time it required a two way run to be official, if my memory serves me correctly. But that hemi was a whole different animal that I will address in a later video. I appreciate and thank you watching and commenting!

Although I have a 57 Bel Air Sport Coupe I agree with you that the Pontiac was esthetically nicer. I was raised in Canada and my Dad bought a new 57 Pontiac Laurentian. The Chieftains weren't available in Canada and the Laurentian was top of the line. The Pontiacs in Canada were on the Chevy chassis. Apparently in the U.S. 1957 was the first year of the Bonnevile available one per dealer. The 57 Pontiacs have really appreciated these past few years. A restored Bonnevile Convertible is now worth well over $100,000.

Wow that's awesome... yeah to bad we didn't get some the canadian built stuff down here too.. but don't worry I'll be showing off some of the beautiful cars from up there.. and for sure the 1968 pontiac beaumont one of my personal favorites and a lot more. Thanks for watching and commenting

@@MOTORHEADMISFITS-zk9su My dream was to own a Bonneville. When we moved to California in 1970 I immediately bought a 1969 Pontiac Brougham 4 door hard-top for $3153 out the door. Nice car but nothing nlike the 57's and 58's,

The Bonneville was a nice car, but sounds like you still picked a winner you can't really go wrong with them old pontiacs every model had something special about them. Even the grand prix was a fun car!

Thanks much for the great memories, of my early own 1957 Pontiac, which was identical in model and color, to your beautiful two door hardtop. Mine did a not have the Continental kit, or factory A/C, but the Style, the Class, and Performance was built in…I to, regret parting with mine long ago. I had the blessing, and pleasure of a 1957 Star Chief in er so Al the 1980’s, thru early 90’s, but a personal matter caused a need to part with it, it was a white with red trim Convertible…very nicely optioned. I am keeping a strong watch for a 1857 Chieftan, or upper series, fully restored, or nicely preserved Survivor, two door hardtop, to enjoy…If anyone reading this has one, or knows of one, Please let me know…Thanks much.

Any GM model for 1957 was flat out beautiful from Chevy to Cadillac. I'm a millionaire and I cannot afford to buy any of them that are #3 or better cars. Restoration costs are unreal. For my money, I would rather have a new truck for 50 or 60 thousand dollars or a 1999 Suburban, Tahoe or Denali now that they are antiques.

the chevy had the engine set back the pontiac did not thus out handling other cars the chevy won the most nascar races of any model year because of it with the reatively low 220 hp 283

The chevy definitely wasn't a slouch and it did win a lot of races, it was a bad car from chevy no doubt.. I just don't believe pontiac got as much credit as it should've. Thanks for watching and commenting

A friend owned a 57 or maybe a 58 which had the FI and was an anniversary model. And, it was a convertible. That guy also had a 56 Olds convertible. He told me years later that he really regrets letting two go.
