When I was a child I can still remember when my parents bought a brand new 1959 Chevrolet Biscayne 4 Door sedan. What a car it was, big flair wings over the trunk and beautiful green paint job. Those were cars with individuality, not like things manufactured today.🚘
Love these classic commercials especially when parents trusted kids with their cars. America was more mature back then without modern technology like we have today.
My mom purchased a new1962 Chevrolet Impala 4 door sedan in about April or May of 62. The car was equipped with the 300hp dual exhaust 4bbl 327. The engine had "camel back" heads installed with air cond, power steering and brakes and rare power windows. The car was ermine white with red interior. Someone ordered the car and did not take owner ship of it when it came to the dealer, so mom got it. Two weeks later we made a trip from Dallas to Los Angeles in that car. Man, that 300hp engine was smooth as hell just crusing @ 70mph and in no strain! I used to hear the sound of that dual exhaust when we were going through the mountains, and it had a sound of it's own. She kept it until 1979 and sold it to a man who wanted it and she got a 1979 Olds Delta 88. Mom has had some very good cars in her life. God rest her soul.
That’s funny. Owned a 62 impala convert , white with red interior and Uncle Sam sent me to Alaska to work on Generators and deuce and a half’s. Wish I owned that car now.👍🇺🇸
@@coolezum Elöször is nagon köszönön, hogy vàlaszoltàl! Én csak 63ban születtem. 18évesen T-55 javitottam a magyar hadsereben.

The woman who spoke at the end. Classic feminine voiceover that absolutely no longer exists. The maturity, warmth and grace. GONE, GONE, GONE from advertising, and public life.
Sure , though she lived in a better time in America , unlike the lunacy we live in today. And you and I will die too people today think they will stay young and live forever , at least they had nice cars nice music a better generation too, today we have nothing but ugly junk to drive and lousy generation.

That’s the combination of the “Smoker’s contralto” and the last vestiges of the “mid-Atlantic” accent fashionable in the earlier part of the century. But you’re right that what was perceived as elegance in that era no longer sells. It’s the old, old story. The younger generation is generally allergic to whatever floated their parents’ boats.
If could only pick 2 of these as my favorite it would have to be a 1958 & a 1961 they are all legends , & the 1960 would be no. 3 if I could choose one more.

How fun it was to live in the era where every year the model changed enough to make the past years model out of date. September was the month the new models rolled out. These days it's no big deal but back then, seeing your first new model on the street was a head turning moment. I didn't become car year knowledgeable till the mid 60s but I did learn many of the past model years too at that point.
I remember as a child in the 1960's the big deal when the next years models arrived. Car transporters unloaded at night and dealerships soaped up their showroom windows to keep them out of the public eye until first revealed on prime time TV. This was usually done on a fall Sunday night commercial during shows like the western Bonanza.

No new car commercials know how to "sell"cars like they used to. No longer is "class" or "pzazz" or "styling" or "looks" part of the sale. They all look like gnomes of eachother thanks to Federal Safety regulations making all cars look like bubbles. Can't have a unique front end look......oh no, might not allow a bicyclist to roll under the front if hit. So...lets make all cars have huge plastic bubble like balloon things in front that masquerade as "aggressive" front ends that drag near the pavement but are two toned with black to hide that. Look closely. All stylists come out of the same couple schools and they all teach the same design stuff, regardless of regulatioons. It is a shame. Nobody (corporate wise) wants to venture outside the box.....oooh, too scary.

Craftsmanship and style... a thing of the past. Cars of that era were imaginative and had appeal! Todays styles just don’t have the schwing that classics do.. technology doesn’t necessarily mean it’s beautiful..
In the 50s and 60s I could tell just by looking at the cars what make they were. Today I have to read the logo unless it's a Volvo or a Mercedes. Car design today is very boring!
That’s when we had classic cars we dressed up, went to the prom or homecoming. We had a ball and we were courteous. and the boys were gentlemen.. as far as I’m concerned these were the best years the 40s and 50s fun times and the best looking cars ever in those years especially the 50s. and the people had common sense.

The '64 Impala was very familiar to me because my parents owned one for a number of years. It was Ermine White with a brown interior and was equipped with a 327 V8 and Powerglide automatic. No power brakes though. I can't believe we lived with drum brakes all the way around on those cars of that era.
It's not really about ford vs chevy. All these cars are a piece of history...today's impala hahaha far from a piece of the old days..worthless..I do love galaxies 64 nice. But also the 65-66 with the lights up n down .different from the side to side...

My parents had a 1960 Chevy wagon. We kids loved riding in that rear-facing back seat. Never once thought about it then but later sure was glad we never got rear-ended in that car.

My late Brother came out of the U.S. Air Force in 1960, he bought a 60 White Chevy Impala Convertible for $2,700.00, his Wife made him get rid of it one year later!
I prefer the 1959 Chevy Impala, Biscayne, or even the Bel-Air. The 1958 Chevy was much to long of a model and it almost reached an acre long. Besides, i always prefered a hard top as well. By the way, i just loved that vibraphone jazzy music, in the background. Nice touch! It was well fitted, for the late 50s Thanks! Johnny, Montréal, Canada.

One thing I did like 50s in older days was that when you bought a new car you could keep it for three or four years and sell it for a real good price almost the same as you bought it you could afford to buy a new car back then every couple years not now not with our economy getting worse all the time those were the days the best of times
Cars today are throw aways. There no history. It's not a gem ,I wanna laugh when I hear ppl say I'm saving this 2009 mazda til my son grows up and he'll have it. It's all falling apart
Noooooooooooooo, N O T for almost the same price you bought it!!! Perhaps for 40%, maybe as little as a third! My uncle sold Cadillacs and Oldsmobiles in Minnesota, so I know what I'm talking about! Cars aged verrrrrrry quickly in those days!

Some of these, like the ‘63 are from dealer training films, not actually commercials. Sometimes in those days, a tv show’s sponsor got some extra time in at the beginning or end of the show.
I remember a tv ad for Chevy that showed an empty convertible driving down the road without a driver. A man in a driving position floated down into it and drove away. Does anyone remember the ad? It was sometime early to mid-60’s.
We will never see those quality STEEL BUMPERS and body again😢 But then again, unfortunately I WOULD NEVER BUY A CHEVY NOR AMERICAN CAR TODAY. TOYOTA HAS PROVEN TO ME .......RELAIBILITY PRACTICALITY. THERES NOTHING LIKE A TOYOTA 😂❤ I LOVE MY 2012 COROLLA
@@mrpaulvoline1275 True.....I dont doubt that the cars of then were produced with more metal and stronger than Plastics for less money. I agree. But the Plastic cars and trucks of today are WAAAY MORE RELIABLE THAN what we had before. I can say that because I drove a 1979 Plymouth Fury and that car was a PAIN IN THE ASS with the 4 barrel HOLLY carburetor and timing chain and points one had to line up in a tune up. When it rained I would have to put a stick in the flap of my carburetor hold it open just to get it to start, true. It was ANNOYING. Today even though cars and trucks are more plastic the vehicles of today arent suffering from all those issues of yesterday. When I say Toyota I think everyone who owns a vehicle from that company already knows why?

But they didn’t, really. Modern cars last potentially far longer than anything from that era. Sure, there are restored examples out there still, but by 100,000 miles back in the day, those things were done.

You’re exactly right. I grew up in that era, and it amazes me how many people seem oblivious to the incredible improvements made to cars since then. There is a great video you can find on RU-vid, where the IIHS (safety star people) crash a 1959 Chevy with a 2009 Malibu, to show what 50 years of engineering progress looks like. Fully instrumented tests with dummies. The results put it all in perspective. I show it to all my old-car friends when they start waxing too romantic about old cars...

IMHO, from the 1961 onward the Chevys became extremely boring. I can remember going into the dealer's back row lots to see the "new" models. What a colossal let down. Bland. Boring. Yeah, I liked those rad fins and huge long and low bodies. Sigh ... :-(
I'm Hispanic and will admit that these were the Golden years, and Why?? Cause there weren't to many blacks, Hispanic. Has racial diversity made this country better? Yes im drunk right now but I blame it on whites wanting slaves and whites being too lazy to do certain jobs is the main Reason Millions of Mexican are here. Well half the country being Mexico is also a factor.
