Thanks!! Really appreciate the comment. Unfortunately Ive been incredibly busy but I have some video content coming soon! Ive watched your channel for quite some time and have learned alot from you!
@@bicycleguy111it's been about 4 months it's hanging in there. A couple of friends of mine took the same route about 2 years ago and they are still shining.
I promise I didn't start off with a clean 58!! This car has been a baja bug many decades before I owned it. Upon initial disassembly, I saw evidence of crash damage in the front apron/ fender wells. I actually picked the car up in Boron, CA, and that guy had it for many, many years as a baja
I have a TON of questions!! Lol!! Im an eastern guy wanting to build a baja. A lot of questions on the roll cage and attaching motor cage to roll cage and yet being able to seperate the body from the frame.
Hey, Tim. Thanks for the comment! As you can see, on my bug it isn't possible to remove the body with my rollcage/ frame sections in place. Now, what you will see alot of baja guys do is completely cut out the rear package tray and front firewall basically creating a shell that slips over the rollcage/ tube frame. Removable panels can then be made to fit. I chose to do my bug without doing all that because I intend to do alot of street driving and would like the cab relatively sealed.
I plan on mostly street driving as well. So now I see your point. Im hoping for a long travel front end and a 3x3 setup as well. Whats the best way to mock up the 3X3 for proper shock placement? Also...Whats a reasonable hp for a standard VW tranny? Im totally new to all of this so I have tons of questions. Thanks!!
I did alot of research about droop (some call it "sag") to determine proper shock placement. Some other factors that will greatly affect your shock mounting would be the type of CV joint you choose ( this also will effect the amount of safe, usable travel), overall shock length and relative travel, whether you're using torsion springs/ plates or coilovers, and several other factors. I am no expert in this topic and recieved alot of help/ advice myself. In reality I'm only halfway there because once the car is mostly finished, I will have to have the shocks revalved/ resprung for optimal performance. As far as a type 1 IRS VW transaxle power capabilities, I dont really know. Ive never run one. This is my first venture into VWs. As a rule of thumb, if its a stock transaxle, it'll probably only handle slightly more than stock power levels. I will post more videos on these topics and talk about what I learned
