Nice bike, I had a 1960 A10 and like yours it was a mixture of years with the sheet metal parts, yours has an early flat sided toolbox and a later oil tank and fenders, mine was in reverse with early fenders and both flat sided oil tank and toolbox. Thanks for showing us your lovely old A10.

Commendably quiet in contrast to several on RU-vid recently.

BSA A10, great bikes. Love the valanced mudguards. Had one back in the day with 10:1 pistons, spitfire cams, alloy super rocket head, clip ons etc. It still only did about 95 but I loved it, and yes, great mpg around 70-80. No rider modes and you can fix everything yourself. Would have another one tomorrow. Very under rated in the handling department. Oh, and my first bike was also a C12.

Thank you very much for such a detailed explanation 👍 Yes, was lucky to get the Trophy, always admired them as a kid in the '60's in London. Got it on CL for short money and when I got it home discovered it had Sonny Routt barrels. It don't half go 🙂

Billy Connolly once had a BSA C12. My first ever bike was a 1953 BSA A7 that had been previously equipped with a sidecar. I was 16 and rode it on the dirt, and sometimes illegally on roads to the dirt. No silencers whatsoever ! Happy days. As an aside, anyone who rides a 'power egg' BSA wants locking up. Talk about ugly ! They even make my ex mother-in-law look good.

Yes Michael , I remember Billy Connolly saying that. He also said he didn’t like restored bikes , so he wouldn’t like this one. Still , he liked to dye his beard purple which is a bit strange. I’ve got to quite like the pre oil in frame A65s over the years , mainly because they are still affordable and handle well. I wondered if BSA copied the look of the Villiers 2T/4T twin engine when they came up with the power egg look. Primary side also not dissimilar to the C15/ B40.

@@calderdale6795 I actually road tested a potential buy OIF Lightning once. The oil light flicker discouraged the purchase, not to mention the fact that my forearms were numb when I got off the bike !

Nice bike I have a iron head A 10 . But the kick start quadrant now showing wear. Try and get a new one in before summer. Agree 80 is about it but 60 all day long. Thanks

Yes , Adrian , and I found the chronometric speedo dead accurate at 60 compared to a GPS. All the modern bike speedos read fast.

Lovely looking Flash with sensible mods. Looking to put indicators on my ‘68 Trophy, could you please explain how you went about fitting yours? All the best from Putnam Valley NY.

I put all the wiring connections in the headlamp. In your case find a live wire from the ignition switch and connect a cable through a fuse to one of the 2 terminals on a small motorcycle flasher unit. Fit a handlebar two way switch and take a cable from the other flasher connection to the centre connection of the switch. Fit the flashers and earth one of the cables on each flasher somewhere close and handy. You might need to make brackets. Take the other cable from each flasher to the headlamp. Combine the cables from the LH flashers and connect them to a cable running to one of the connections on the 2 way handlebar switch. Same for the RH flasher cables.I use double “ bullet” connectors as it’s in keeping with the bike , but that’s your choice. Swop the switch connections ( not the centre one) if you want the switch to operate the other way. You might prefer to put all the connections under the seat for your Trophy. You have the best 650 Triumph available in my opinion , a lovely machine.

Hi I have bought some decals for my 59 flash do you have any info on where they all go regards michael

Hi Mick. The only ones I know for sure are the oil level line on the oil tank : the oval shaped ones on the centre of the oil tank and the tool box , and the Golden Flash one on the rear mudguard between the number plate holder and the seat. As I think I said , the old nail isn’t original so if there are any more transfers I have no idea where they go. The BSA Owners Club would know for sure.

That’s interesting Dev , never heard that description in England , and I’ve been riding old British bikes for 57 years. I guess people describe things according to their own experience., and yes I can see what you mean .

What is the top speed , mine is 80 mph at best ?
@calderdale6795
@calderdale6795 2 года назад
I checked the chronometric speedo against a GPS on a level road , and it’s the most accurate of all my bikes. That said , your 80 is about right , only tried it once and the poor bike was vibrating and generally protesting so I will never torture it again ! Any modernish bike would have clocked nearer ninety.

Lovely bike, but is the front wheel right in the forks ?
@calderdale6795
@calderdale6795 3 года назад
Yes, the geometry is correct. Perhaps the fitment of the later twin leading shoe brake plate makes it look a little odd ? Certainly stainless spacers had to be turned up to get both wheels aligned , and the torque arm a snug fit.The front mudguard is also slightly offset , but that doesn’t bother me. I can confirm the bike rides straight and true.
