My grandma was as stoic as someone could be, but even sixty years later, the memory of the bus crash could bring her to tears. She was Glenda and Kenneth's cousin.
I was 15 days old when this happened. 1/13/58. This happened 64 years ago. How sad it was for these families. Breaks my heart. There all together in heaven with there parents now. Thank you for telling their story. I know this was a hard one. I appreciate you taking the time to tell it. God bless. 🙏👣🙌💔
Incredibly tragic. How the parents found the strength to go on, I'll never know. I was born 2 months after that tragedy. Every one of those kids could have still been alive today. RIP
This story is so much harder when you realize it's about children. How sad for the deceased and their family and friends. It affects so many besides the families. The school mates, their neighbors the list goes on and on. You did a respectful and heartfelt job on this accident, thank you.
My Mom in Breathitt co. Kentucky went over a mountain in a school bus accident in a mudslide late 40s. Scared the life outa her. She had lots of stories growing up.
My dad was on the river bank the day this happened he lost a lot of people he knowed that day it was truly heart breaking a lot of them kids were from Allen Kentucky in floyd county and from cow creek I know the story all to well won of my good friends lost some of her family members. My blessings to all families that lost family and friends that horrible day in floyd county
My uncle, Donald “Dutney” Horn was driving the tow truck. Also, I had family members on that bus. My mother told me stories about the accident. She passed in 2015. I could still here the catch in her voice. Thank you for the lovely tribute.
What happened?!? Was the tow truck stopped in the road? Was he just over a hill where the bus couldn't see? The bus would not have hit the truck if it was just driving down the road. Can you explain please?
@@maryannswanson3832 From what I have heard, Dutney was pulling someone out of a ditch. The bus had already started to veer off the road. Also, my mother sad that the driver was slumped over the wheel. He may have had a heart attack. Never applied the brakes.
I live near Salt Lake City, Utah and a school bus accident on Dec 1, 1938 at a train crossing, is the reason drivers must open the door to look for trains before they can proceed over the tracks. 23 students and the driver were killed.
I drove a school bus for Floyd County from 2010 till 2012 and they made us watch the documentary before every year at out annual safety meeting. There is a lot more to this but I'm sure you didn't want to go in to all that detail. It was good that you recognized some of the victims.
It's a good idea having a picture on the gravestone because anyone visiting the cemetary actually has a picture of that young man as he was at that point in time even though after 64 years it's very weathered now.🌹
This story made me cried the first time i seen the video back in the day. RIP To The Deceased Victims, My Sincere Condolences goes out to the families.
Overwhelming sad, I can't even imagine . I never heard this. Rest in peace dear Children. my heart goes out to those parents and relatives of those Children.
I feel you on this one, Chris! Definitely a very sad story a lot of young adults lost their lives in a horrific way, I can understand why this video was difficult to make emotionally, it’s definitely a very sad and touching story, indeed, my condolences go out to all of their families who grieved when their kids passed away in the accident…. I feel really bad and very sad 😔, thank you for sharing this story with us, Chris! I’m with you on this one, definitely a very difficult video to make, but you had enough courage to do it and you told the story very well! Great job brother! Thank you again!
Once again you have made me cry. The respect you gave to those lost is remarkable. I could tell in your voice that you were heart broken. Thank you for sharing this story.
Carolton KY bus crash. It’ll rip your heart out too. I was 7 in Kentucky near the site and I’ll never forget how much it changed our lives here. My heart goes out to all the victims of any kind.
Oh can’t even imagine this tragedy. To lose one child is horrible but to lose all of them at one time just beyond belief. So sad for these families and the town. You did and amazing job delivering this tragic story.
Thanks for covering this tragedy Chris. I've watched the documentary on this several years ago and it's so heartbreaking to hear the stories of the people who lived through this horrible event. May they never be forgotten!
I'm originally from Floyd County. Moved to Florida but my family still lives there. There is a little shack next to the sign and the remembrance cross is for Lakyn Pennington next to it. The tragedy was the worst, and it is also why if there is a flurry of snow, they call off schools.
Unlike ANY video you have EVER created, I actually felt the sincerity of the humbled words you spoke! I truly hope as you, this is received by the families of those lost with gratitude and a sincere sence of peace for them. I think this was a beautiful video and was very tactful! I had never heard of this, thank you for shedding light on this!
I remember the Carrollton bus crash like it was yesterday. I had never heard the story of the Preston'sburg. I knew people whose families were on the Carrollton bus crash. All caused by a drunk driver driving the wrong way and colliding into the bus. God bless the families of both tragedies. Love and peace 💜
My Grandma told me this story many times, and it doesn't get any easier to hear that these precious little ones were called home the way they were !! My Grandma was a tough Ole bird but, I remember the tears she shed over these young'uns, she was called home as well in 2019 !! I am from Johnson County, not to far from where these precious souls were called home !!!
Its hard to push thumbs up over the most tragic video i have ever seen but in honor of the lives destroyed and lost i did , may they please rest in please o lord
I live in south central Kentucky and I remember hearing about this accident and it’s so sad . I also remember the Carrolton county bus accident that was in 88 and it was so tragic . 😞
I wouldn't want to try and imagine what they went through. I have eight children and couldn't imagine my life without one of them. God bless those families. We have the hope they'll reunite in a far better place
I am from Prestonsburg and I had read where this hit the town so hard the local radio station here on that day halted its format of the current Country and Western hits of that day and for the entire duration of the search and rescue they only played Hymns and Gospel songs with pastors from all over the area praying on the air in between songs for the families and the rescue and recovery teams. It was said the last of the children recovered were found miles down the river from the crash site. Thank you for honoring and respecting those who perished that day.
I give you credit for having the courage to film and tell this story. It's truly sad. Words seem so inadequate to express it. Very thoughtful and well done video. Thank you.
Such a terribly sad story. This one made me cry. I drove a school bus for 14 years and I was always very aware of the precious cargo I had on my bus. I can only imagine the terror the driver and children felt. Although this is a very sad story, thank you for telling it with compassion and respect.
Hi . A very sad and heartfelt story. A terrible tragedy also for the parents , siblings and the community. Especially the families who lost all their children. Thanks for all your dedication to detail bringing us your stories. Take care . Deborah Canada
A good friend of my parents was on that bus, he was one of the older kids that tried to help others off. I use to have to drive past that site daily and it always made me so sad.
@@maryannswanson3832 the wrecker was working on getting a truck unstuck from the ditch at the time. The tow driver maintains to this day that he didn’t back into the bus and some students on the bus maintain the accident happened when the bus tried to go around but failed to completely clear the tow truck. The tow truck driver donated the insurance money he received to the families that lost students.
That's the same cemetery my parents and and my my brother and grandparents and my nice and a lot of friends ty very much for putting this video out much respect brother God bless 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for the obvious care & respect with this story! It was probably in 1962(?) I was in third grade and my mother used to make me take a rope to school to be able to climb out of the building if it was ever on fire because there was a big fire in Chicago for the elementary school where the children were trapped . Did you ever hear about that?
That fire took place on December 1, 1958. It happened at Our Lady of the Angels School in Chicago, IL. Ninety-two children and three Catholic nuns died in that horrific event. There were many documentaries made about the event and one of the books that was written about it is titled To Sleep with the Angels: The Story of a Fire. That fire changed building fire codes.
Hello From Australia 🦘. What a truely sad part of history, I have 5 grown up kids I couldn't imagine even loosing one child but 3 OMG !! I think you filmed this story with love in your heart 💓 and I love the way you payed tribute to these BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN. GOD 🙏 BLESS YOU !!
Greetings from the Philippines. You have such a good content here honoring and paying respect to those young lives that perished in that tragic accident. And nice voice too..keep safe always 🙂
OMG, RIP to all those young kids that lost their lives that day! I can only imagine what pain the parents felt! In my opinion, kids should never go before their parents, granted it sometimes doesn't go that way...
I just ran across your channel. I had never heard about this accident before. This accident happened the day I was born. How very sad that so Many families lost multiple children. I can’t imagine. I am glad that the newer buses have doors and windows that are easier to open and operate so that the students can actually access them themselves. Thank you for the video.
This was such a sad, sad video. But it was absolutely necessary to hear about their stories. I had not ever heard of this tragedy. God bless them, their families, their friends, and also you for telling their stories. The memorial sign got the Cesco family name spelled wrong. The stone says Glenda Mae Cesco and the sign says Glenda May Cisco. The stone says Kenneth Forrest Cesco and the sign says Cisco. The stone says Joyce Ann Matney and the sign says Joyce Allen Matney.
Well, I just had settled in to watch your video and then my daughter comes in my room and we talked and at the same time my son messaged me! 😂😁 You sure had a lot that came in! Wonderful. You always post great and informative videos and so your channel will grow and grow!
U do n xlent job with ur videos. U draw emotions from ur viewers with ur words n pictures. Keep up the good work, what u present to us is greatly appreciated. Thank you!!
I remember my Grandparents talking about this growing up. Mamaw had an old newspaper clipping she kept in her Bible. What's sad is that these floods are still hitting our area. At Dewey Dam steps it has all of our floods marked. Gives you an idea just how big the waters have gotten here. So sad. Couldn't imagine.
You say that you "have a small channel in a small corner of the ⁶internet". Well my friend I believe your channel is bigger than you think because of stories like this. Keep up the good work Chris!
R. I. P to those 27 lives that were cut short, because of a terrible accident. May their family receive comfort in the way that you lovingly told their story. Chris, you were amazing and so empathetic to this story, that it made me go and read as much as I could about it. According to what I found out was there was a similar terrible bus accident that happened in 1988 when a former school bus turned church bus was heading back to Kentucky from an Ohio theme park was hit head on by a drunk driver that caused the church bus to burst into flames and also killed 26 young people plus the driver, which is a huge reason that all school buses in KY have 9 emergency exits today. 4 window exits, 2 roof exits, the rear exit, the front exit & an additional exit door on the side of the bus.
there is 3 other memorials for them. One around the boat dock close to the jenny wiley lodge on right side of road. One at old court house down down and other inside the new floyd country rescue center.
Rip to the bus crash victims. hope the familes of any tradgy get some peace and comfort knowing that safety changes were made. good to tell these stories so wont get lost in time. good vlog
This is so sad. The families that lost all their children and even 1 or 2. My heart hurt for this loss,. The community is still probably hurting for those who are still alive. RIP to all the students and the bus driver. You did an amazing job telling the story..😥😥😥
There used to be the news paper clipping in a small restaurant idowntown from it in Billy Ray's, a local restaurant before the old one caught on fire. Not sure if it was salvaged.
My dad and uncle were in the national guard and was activated for recovery efforts for this tragedy....when would talk about it or tell family members about the the story you could really see the sadness the hurt and emotions in their faces and voices...it effected them the rest of their lives....😢
