In this video I recover a MGA from 1958 which had crashed in 2023 during a race. Now it is time to asses the damage and an overall inspection of what is needed to get it back onto the track. Including the cost estimation.
Hi Steve, another great project ! My business, just me & my Son, here in the UK have completed a 3 year rebuild on an Ex Works MGA Twin Cam, for a gentleman racer. I am more than happy to help if you need any hard to find parts. There are several real experts on these cars here. Not just parts shops, but years of experience.
Hi Steve, Neil here, Victor is my YT name ! More than happy to help on the camber. Perhaps via email, rather than replies on here ? Either way ask away. Neil
Really love this race car,I have to be honest the Formula cars you have are my favorite. Cant wait to see this car racing again.Love the videos an learning alot from them.Thank you Jack.
Well built...body , paint frame etc .. Check diff engine gearbox for drivetrain wear.. But it lloks like a very good candidate for class racing.. Carry on
I had a well used '57 MGA for a few years in college. It was my very first sports car and lots of fun to drive and to learn some early lessons in MG repair. Viewing your latest project will be fun for me, too. It certainly is a well constructed vintage MGA race car.
I also own and drive a 1960 MGA here in UK. Mine was fully restored in 1997 from one I bought in 1978. The door skins are aluminium, as are the trunk and bonnet. I am interested to see how you fit the fibreglass wings as I have a full new set here with front valance, but currently have original steel wings fitted all around. I have subscribed to your channel, to see how you progress. These are great cars.
A couple comments. "While unibody and monocoque construction are sometimes used interchangeably, they aren't actually the same. We define unibody as a unitized vehicle body with tubes, bulkheads, and box sections that provide most of its strength, whereas a true monocoque structure gets its strength from the entire external 'skin ". There was also the 1622 and the Deluxe Models which were Twin Cam structure but a 1622 motor. Great looking car. Good luck. PS When I worked for a BMC Dealership 1968-1972 I bought a 1956 MGA and installed a 3 Main MGB motor. Wonderful car, I miss it.
In the entire history of racing has there ever been a seat belt that has sheared? Race cars are usually kept indoors so the belts don't get UV light and compared to road cars the belts are hardly used. It seems to me perfectly good and safe belts are disposed of with no empirical evidence that they have become unsafe. Lovely car.
You have a point, I am of the same opinion. However we have FIA regulations and scrutiny on the track that states and inspects the validity on the tags of the devices and clothing... Out of date= No run.... It is all about bussiness if you ask me... Thanks for the comments
It looks like you found a very nicely prepared car! Hard to believe that the frame and bodywork would be in such good condition (apart from the crashed bodywork) considering it dates back to 1958. Like so many cars I've seen, it does not look like they did a great job on the wiring. I would enjoy watching an episode dedicated to evaluating and organizing the electrical system. 🙂
I've just been troubleshooting that monster of a dual relay box on the bulkhead. Only the earlier 1500 and most Twin Cams have the multifunction sidelight / indicator / brake light installation. 6/8 connections were wrong!
Thanks for the comments, this was for sure a ground up restoration a few years ago before it went onto the track. As always there are t hings that can be improved and I will do so over time
Hi Steve many times I hear you quoting horse power. I don't understand why horse. I looked for videos about it but I didn't understand. I use to understand most difficult concepts when explained by you. Especially on the drawing board. Lol Moshitoa south Africa
Well, I am still chasing the exact details.. One person told me he/she was just in front... and claimed it was a drivers error... Not stating what it was... I know the name of the driver , but it seems that he is not willing or cannot talk about it.. Not sure what happend... But still checking
