I had a 1958 4CV when I was 12...It was my intro to cars...It ended up as a garden ornament at my mums..Boy that brings back memories...That cap between the back glass and the engine cover is the radiator cap...Mine had a 890cc and the speedo once read 90km/h in the mud...lol...
@@RamblinAround Yep...I smashed it into a tree..(For fun...Remember I was 12) and cut the roof off and that made it fold in 1/2 so I found a burnt out shell and swapped all the engine and such over...The topless one turned into a garden and the other ended up with 15 broken Holden diff centers in it and a tree grew thru the middle of it eventually...All that stuff is long gone now but the memories remain.
I love it. Had one back in the '70's nick named "Ee Or" due to the noise it made when I went over a bump or lump in the road. Gear lever like a knitting needle, slow and lovable.
It is an eye catcher, and I like it. I looked it up and they had around a 750cc engine with 30 - 40 hp depending on what article I read. At one time I would have bought one, after all I once owned a 1958 DKW. Thanks Jeff and Jordan, you two always show up with some interesting cars and trucks.
I never saw one of these but there were a goodly number of Renault Dauphines on the road in the 1960s. The Dauphine was the upgrade from the 4CV. It would do at least 70 but it had real reliability issues and simply couldn't live at the highway speeds we are used to in rural America. They were intended to compete with VW bugs but never developed the dealer networks needed. They were at least water cooled so you did have real heat in the winter.
Hey Jeff, our Neighbor had this for his Work Car in all white and boy it smoked and was loud. He looked so silly driving this he was the tough guy imagine with this noisy little Renault. Very Cool indeed. His was a 1962 and I like the look of this one here better. But they are all unique. Nice Find Jeff
Yeah, I would imagine that was a sight to behold. I just thought it was something interesting to check out. I'm familiar with the 2CV's, but I knew nothing about this model. Thanks for taking a look my friend!
My late Aunt used to have A 1960 - 1961 Renault 4CV 4 door BEETLE TYPE CAR !! I would love to keep it as original as possible including the engine !! I never did like the Renault Dauphine nearly as much as I ever did the Renault 4CV !! The top of the Renault 4CV had an upside down 🧼 BATH TUB !! My late Uncle and Aunt had 2 1959 FIAT 600s !! They couldn’t get the 2 1959 Fiat 600s on the road !! They were a little bit smaller than the VW BEETLES were !! The VW BEETLES , the FIAT 600’s and the RENAULT 4CVs were very cute cars !! They saved you on a whole lot of ⛽️ gas !!! They were very cute ⛽️ gas savers. !! ⛽️⛽️⛽️⛽️⛽️⛽️⛽️⛽️
I saw one on the hotwheels show actual car being chosen to be made into a production toy diecast ,it was a 4dr with a road racer stance including a V-8!
HI Jeff and Jordan , being an old guy I can only remember ever seeing only two of these in my lifetime and both of them were two doors . The first one was white and belonged to a middle school teacher and that was about 1960 . The second one was about 1964 and belonged to a friend from high schools Dad . The main thing I remember about them was that they were woefully underpowered . I believe it was Renaults answer to VW and we all know how that went ! Anyway I do like the two tone paint it does give it some class , it would definitely be fun to cruise in but I would have to also want to have a backup as I remember that brand did not have a reputation for being too reliable ! Anyway take care Guys . Larry
It would be a bit better if it could at least cruise at highway speeds. From what I read, it's only good for a top speed of about 59 mph. It would be a fun toy for around town though. Thanks for taking a look Larry!
Back in 1974 a friend of mine had one like this Nice little car i had an Austin 1300 gt cooper engine fast for its time thanks jeff and Jordan for this video
Cool lil car .. next time see how much they want for that caddy behind .. Looks almost like mine but different year ..Mine is an 87 with 81,000 miles .. Looks brand new .. same color scheme a the one there .. Rarely leaves garage
Jeff & Jordon - nice double-act from you two, as well as the v interesting car. Even from here in U.K., I’m afraid to say I know nothing of this model & will only look further after these comments:- I don’t think it’s quite right to say it’s typical of small European cars at the time. I think we’d have still reacted a little then as you have now...! It was odd to see the starter handle hole in the front bumper as well as the rear! And it did look as though the front and rear bumpers were of the same design. My thoughts on that are, whilst I’m sure Renault did do a ‘starter-handle-hole delete’ in manufacture, it’s understandably front bumpers that have become more scarce/expensive over the decades...
Jeff - I’m going to TRY not to go on! It was a more than interesting coincidence... I’m ashamed to say that before this coincidence, other than my relatively silly earlier comments, I wasn’t going to ‘look’ further and carry on with my RU-vid existence... However, because of the within-24hr-shock and summary MSN info., e.g. ‘46-‘61; 1m+ production; Sports model, etc., I looked @ Wikipedia. Just the opening para is both interesting AND funny (to me as an Englander & exM-B student), so I encourage you and your Subscribers to do the same. That’s it!
I agree, maybe boost that 40 HP up to 80 or 100, then you'd have something. At least it would be able to cruise down the highway. Thanks for taking a look Jim!
